The Dawgs played somewhat competitively in the 9-7 loss. Sadly, Tech's top 4 hitters only managed 1-17 hits for the game (.58). Unfortunately after that Burroughs handicapped the team with his LSU rejects who together went 2-8 (.250) with 2 right fielder errors. Safford (0-4) got pulled for his last at bat. I wonder why? The game was lost when a Jax batter was swinging on a 3-0 count, hit it up the middle and scored 2. What’s up with that? Burroughs never lets his batters swing with a 3-0 count. Another coaching lesson learned if Burroughs was paying attention. Being out coached matters a lot.

The fact of the matter is that Burroughs lost this game two years ago when he kept his LSU outcasts and since then has forced them more and more into the spotlight of being on the field. Remember Burroughs’ quote “the game will find you”, meaning a player’s flaws will stand out when it’ll hurt the team the most. Well that continues to happen with both his weak players, assistant coaches and himself. Evidently he can’t see his own awareness playing out boldly in front of him. As for Tech’s assistant coaches, Fouts should’ve been replaced at least two years ago and Wells needs to be replaced at this season’s end. The problem is that those are head coaching decisions and Burroughs isn’t competent enough to make them. He’s probably afraid to break new ground because it means working harder at improving things and there’s the risk of outside competent coaches not wanting to work for him.

Last night’s game was no surprise, it had everything we’ve come to expect from this team,
I posted my preferred hitting lineup earlier, but I would now change it to having Ballard batting 8th, in between the lefty duo of Drost and Safford. Ballard is the pop-up king, easy out.
….and hopefully Ballard will show me up today with a big game at the plate
