Forsythe strikes out 2 with bases loaded to get out of the jam (created by 3 walks)
Bottom 1:
Ball hit to the Gulf of Mexico (LT 1-0)
Ballard struck out
Hawsey double to deep center
Coates walked (runners on 1st & 2nd)
Ruddell out at 1st (runners at 2nd & 3rd)
Berkley reach on Error (Hawsey scores, runners on the corners, LT 2-0)
Berch,E singled through the right side, RBI ; Berkley,G advanced to second; Coates,C scored, unearned. LT 3-0
Drost,B popped up to ss
Top 2- HR Liberty (LT 3-1)
Weak crowd for Liberty. We may have as many fans in attendance as they do.
Another great call by Judy to have the tournament in such a central location.
So far Drost & Safford are 0-4. Drost was the last out in the 1st & 3rd, leaving 3 runners on base. Safford was the first out in the 2nd & 4th. Together they’re 2-12 (.166) in the tournament. Surely they’ll turn things around before it’s too late.
Tech prevails 5-2. Now the really crappy teams are eliminated with the toughest games ahead.
Drost and Safford are doing about as well as Ballard and a few others.
I HOPE I NEVER see Hooks throw another pitch for Tech. Hooks is a joke. Can't throw a strike to save his life.
Dawgs win 5-2. Liberty is awful on offense...horrendous. They made our woeful pitching look half decent.
But, live to fight another day. Got to it together or the season ends tomorrow for sure.
Go Dawgs!
Good analysis Captain
DBU walks it off with a sac fly 2-1 after a killer pitching duel. Tech plays Jax again.
I loved it! Great pitching! Jax State has two "Jacksons," Jackson Sleeper and that guy last night Jackson Phipps. We might see Sleeper for an inning today, depends on his recovery from the other night.
For us, we need someone to step up on the bump. Probably a couple of guys who actually look like they are Division I pitchers. Our defense needs to sparkle, and our guys at the top of batting order to earn that distinction. Ballard is struggling, Mexico has not been as consistent as he has been, and Hawley's bat has been quiet. Our best hitter in the tournament has been Eli Berch. It's great our 7th hole hitter is delivering, but the guys at top need to deliver big time.
IF, big IF, we get a good performance on the mound today, from one guy, or by committee, we will beat Jax State.
Go Dawgs!
From here on is typically when the Dawgs’ fatigue starts to show up. Burroughs limited capable alternates are pretty much nonexistent; Houston, Comeaux, and Patterson have probably all become rusty especially Grant. You’d think Burroughs would shake up the batting order to give it a spark where some guys have gone stagnant but that’s unlikely. If you asked Burroughs, “what are you going to do today to try to give your team an advantage?” He’d say, “what do you mean?” He’ll play it to whatever happens, happens. Lots of luck Tech…
It all comes down to pitching. Tech can win with LB's regular lineup or with a shaken-up lineup IF the guy on the mound is having a great day. I posted at the very beginning of the season we don't have the offense to win games "with our offense." Sure, we can feast on a lousy pitcher or one having a bad game, but we can't overpower a pitcher who has his stuff. So, to win, our defense has to be salty, no errors! and our pitchers have to have good outings.
I found it interesting that Jax State's RF Colton Hedgewood commented on his two years in Ruston. Reading between the lines of what he said, he despises LB and the way he keeps guys rotting on the bench.
All this said, I am a Tech fan...can't help myself. Watching the games I am "all in" rooting for the Dawgs. And with that I say...
Go Dawgs! Beat dem Cocks!![]()
You can't sit Berch for Houston - not as hot a bat as he is swinging
You can't sub Comeaux for Coates - it further weakens an already anemic offense for a glove that is about the same
Patterson can't hit a curve to save his life and it's showed up the last month and a half
It's 67 degrees - heat and fatigue should not be an issue like it was last year
