“Year Four of Cumbie Era Begins …”

This is not a good way to fire up the fanbase.

The media relations office needs a refresher in marketing and PR. Cumbie is the last person or thing you should be marketing.

Not gonna lie and not being funny. I read that as “Year Four of Crummie Era Begins”. Now I am even more sad, that I have read it right.

Have reviewed several sources, like a YouTube channel that does college football, and the consensus is Tech does no better than 5-7. One source said 3-9 and another thinks 6-6 is possible. That's what I'm thinking too, something like 5-7.

Well Hell! we have always prided ourselves on beating the odds. I say 2-10, that's what they get for laying odd on our record.

I don't think winning itself is enough. We were winning and attendance was declining even before Skip feel apart. They have to show the average fan/alum that they are more than just a ticket, and the casual fan needs something besides just the game to draw them out now days. It's just the state of affairs for everyone except the top 30 or so land grant schools or teams that happen to be the only show in town like Bosie State in Idaho etc.

Winning and game-day atmosphere. The latter was destroyed by the last administration and then we started losing.

We'll need to get back to winning for sure but there will need to be a concerted effort to make game-day something fun again and something to look forward to.

This "needing to do something" to restore a game-day experience is not unique to Tech. The China Virus Hoax and shutdown started the collapse, followed by the ridiculous portal and NIL changes, and in Tech's case, to further exasperate the mess, we made the worst hire in Tech Football history. College football in general has forever changed for the worse and all fanbases are finding better ways to spend their time and money. All the crap of the SEC and Big 10 gobbling up schools rendering the rest of the schools virtually powerless is adding to the changing landscape driving average fans away from the sport. I don't think we will ever again see what college football once was and schools like Tech will suffer the most.

Now, what could, possibly, change things for the better, especially for schools like Tech? Probably only the formation, or reformation, of something like the NCAA with schools NOT in the SEC and Big 10. Completely separate from those SECB10 schools, never play them in any sport, isolate them forcing them to play each other. And the rest of country play for our own national championships. Then Tech could build back and carve out a fanbase in that new setup.

I thought the whole reason Tech hired Cumbie was because he was an offensive guru from the Air Raid family tree. His play calling sucked, the OL coach didn’t call much better. Now we’re back to Tony Franklin. Someone tell me again why Cumbie is the head coach? Don’t get me wrong, I hate seeing coaches get fired because they have families to support. But that’s part of the profession. I think we need a much stronger leader AND RECRUITER! Thanks for the vent!

Chances are really good that it’s going to be another underachieving season.

I will start the season wearing my aluminum foil hat with some four-leaf clovers and rabbit feet in hand. Probably need a few mushrooms nearby too.

Hoping there will be one or two diamond-in-the-rough skill players emerge on offense.
One can only dream of a QB type the likes of Rattay, McCown, Cameron, or Higgins to appear, but one should be very happy if we somehow found we had a Kubik or Sokol type.
Hoping if any of our o-linemen learned how to block over the summer that they would be able to execute blocks in a game.
Hoping we field both an average defense and an average offense in the same season. Average across the board might seem elite in CUSA.

    What kind of mushrooms?

Last year we had the 12th best defense in the nation. #1 in pass defense as I recall. Yet, the offense was so anemic we still couldn't manage a winning season. You have to go out of your way to have a losing season when your defense is that good.

    5-7

Agreed.... Our main problem has been not being able to have a good offense and good defense in the same season. Either our offense is on fire (been a while) or our defense is on fire. We need both!

Offense has to be better. Average would be better than last season. Six games with offensive scoring outputs of 10, 3, 14, 14, 12, and 6 is painful. We scored less than 21 points in 8 of 12 games.
Defense successes carrying over into this season would be great. Defense that is 12th in nation is quite an accomplishment considering how much load they carried at times to keep us in games. Some would argue that we played too weak of a schedule (#126 in strength of schedule in 2024). We faced all the CUSA top-tier (eh) offenses teams and still statistically held up.
Three overtime losses last season. Ouch.
CUSA has been such a weak conference the past handful of years. In 2024 our struggles on offense were alarming. Our successes on defense were refreshing. We are overdue to have a decent team on both sides at the same time.
