To be quite honest with you, I was trying to be rational even though I have a vile hatred toward people, groups, and institutions that show the characteristics of disloyalty, selfishness, and that do all they can to hurt people if just to lift themselves up.

Only two schools in all Division 1-A exhibit these traits: Utah State and Louisiana Tech.

You may say every school does what USU and LTU did just to "better" themselves but that's horsecrap.

So, yes, I hate Louisiana Tech.

No, what I said originally was not a flame. La Tech is either dirt poor or mediocre wealthy in which there are five Sun Belt schools with more money and Middle Tennessee State is one of them!! Ya'll need to quit living in a fantasy and face reality!

Yes, I hope La Tech stays in the WAC for as many years as possible gutting your athletic budget of every last cent until you have nothing left! And it's coming.

Pride comes before the fall and pride is one of the seven deadly sins. Pride in the way Dan Reneau has handled the Sun Belt is not the type of pride that fans show at sporting events. The kind of pride that Reneau is showing on behalf of La Tech is the kind of pride the winds up destroying the people that exhibited it like Reneau.

Bottom line, La Tech doesn't have the money and could never ever ever EVER afford a coach as good as Steve Spurrier!

Blah Blah sun belt. I dont care about the sun belt, I care about Tech. "Facilities" as they are being used in the argument against us are overated. You and your belt boys can go circle jerk about how nice your "facilities" are all day. Bottom line is your still in the sun belt, and therefore nobody gives a damn. Now go away.
No one cares about the Sun Belt? CUSA's Britton Banowsky will be if he loses Central Florida and Memphis to the Big East, and do you know why?

    MARKET & RECRUITING

CUSA already has a presence in Louisiana with Tulane. They won't need another Louisiana school. Tulane covers the vastness of that state! However, CUSA WILL be looking to restore their markets in Florida and Tennessee before they look anywhere else and last I checked neither the MAC, Mountain West, or the WAC will have presences in either of those states!

Oh, but the Sun Belt does.

Middle Tennessee brings the Nashville market and the state of Tennessee back to CUSA while Florida Atlantic and Florida International bring back the Florida recruiting grounds as well as the markets of Miami, and Boca Raton/Fort Launderdale!

And as far as Louisiana is concerned Tulane already delivers that state's only REAL market--the one that has all the pro-sports teams which is New Orleans home of Mardi Gras and everything famous is Louisiana.

So just keep right on believing that no one gives a dang about the Sun Belt, because if the Big East expands forcing CUSA to expand, La Tech may STILL be without a home before it's all over with!

Oh, and by the way, it really is nice football stadiums like the one where MTSU kicked the living crap out of La Tech to the tune of 49-21 the last time the two played that really has the higher conferences' eyes on schools like MTSU.

Let's not forget the MAC had their eye on us.

The original theme of this thread is a great idea. As seems to happen a lot lately, these Sun Belt posters have changed the theme to explain what a great conference the Sun Belt is.

Back to the original idea. I think hiring Spurrier or some other big name coach that is not currently employed is a great idea. Attendance would increase greatly and we might even win some games. Yes, if they are successful, they will leave in 2-3 years, but there should be an assistant on the staff who could step in and maybe stay for some time.

We desperately need something like this.

I have a feeling that if were told we could get Spurrier for 3 years and here is what it would cost, the money could be raised very quickly. But, it is great to live in a dream world. Unfortunately I can't see it happening. We could solve all kinds of problems - attendance, excitement, recruiting, JBIII, with a single hire.

Exactly! If there was a plan to hire somebody like Spurrier, we could raise the money. I really dont think that would be the problem. Hell, there would be a big boost in excitement and interest, if tech just released a press clip saying that we were active in trying to get spurrier. Just leak the story to a reporter, and bam, instant interest in la tech. We could do that.:icon_wink

Shoot, we could leak it without there being any truth to it. Then, we would be just like the reporters with all of the garbage that we have been reading. There is usually no truth to it, or the truth started in a couple of words and they decided all the rest of the story. I guess ole Steve would be shocked if a story was reported that we were currently in contract negotiations for a 3 year deal for him to come to TECH. That would be funny.

We don't need a Steve Spurrier.

What we need is someone who flat out wants to WIN , WIN , WIN -- Every Game.

Somebody like Scott Stoker over at NSU.

That dude wouldn't stand on the sidelines with a silly little sh-t eating grin on his face whilst we are getting totally humiliated.

Thank you. Man, that was seriously the funniest thread in the history of the internet. I know it must be getting close to football season because you are finally starting to forget about how bad your program is, and finally coming around to those delusional visions of how awesome tech football is going to be in 2004!

I can't wait to see the undefeated predictions, the insider's predictions of jumbotrons that would be superior to any NFL system, his predictions of future conference affiliations, talk from practice of DB's knocking WR's heads off and DL manhandling the OL.

Hey Aub, "Let the 12-0 season continue!" Right?!?!?!?!?!?!?

No I didn't, well, maybe I did. I received a letter from tech but I figured it was one of those wanting me to renew my alumni membership since it's been one year since I graduated. Anyway, I just threw it away.

But on a similar note, I did receive my TAF and LSU season ticket renewal package. Thanks for asking though.

Re: If a Tech fan could dream????

I just drove past Tiger Stadium a few weeks ago. Pretty impressive expansion going on. Seems like they are ripping out seats that are a few years old and replacing them with more seats.

At the same time, the LSU people are complaining about their lack of funding and asking for a billion dollar trust fund to be set aside by the taxpayers.

Seems folks like MT should be donating money to the school instead of being ripped off by TAF since their athletic program is self-sufficient.

Those Tiger supporters just don't have their priorities straight.

if a tech fan could dream, i would dream that we hired spurrier or someone close to his level. i would dream that we are the 9th football team in the big east (they need somebody, right?), and we would play our other sports in the missouri valley conference. then next spring, we can bring in tim floyd and 4 big time high school basketball recruits. then maybe i would dream for 5,000+ fans at every bball game and 20,000+ at every football game. dream big.

Now as we all know, the old fun & gun didn't quite go over too well in the NFL...but he still loves coaching.....AND.... he still has the drive to prove something to himself and to all those involved in football.. ..Now we all know that he's already rich, so money may not be the driving force for him anymore.....But to take a small Div IA school such a Tech from rural Northern Louisiana to national (possible BCS) contention would be one heck of a challenge.....YEA...YEA...YEA....when donkeys fly.....stupid pipe dream...right???
But just think about it for a minute...picture it in your minds eye what all could happen......just the act of signing Steve Spurrier as the next Tech coach would probably more than double our attendance alone just in the first year.....then throw in the recruiting talent and news/TV exposure and marketing that would result.......It would be unbelieveable!!!!
Now don't forget the next generation of top assistant coaches would be lined up outside Tech's door just for the opportunity to work with Spurrier and work for nearly league minimum....Tech plays a season or two under the new coach and by the 3rd year...just watch all that money roll in and by that time we will be able to afford to keep all the coaches and TA-DA....the SEC is kicking Vandy out of the conferance and Tech takes their place.
Boston, I hope you don't mind changing the sport to basketball, but a similar "pipe dream" came up on the North Texas board a few years ago when Vic "I can recruit, but can't coach" Trilli was fired as NT's basketball coach. At the same time, Bobby Knight was out of a job. Someone on the NT board submitted his "pipe dream" that if NT could somehow sign Bobby Knight, what it would do for our university and basketball program. I mean, just the signing alone would have put NT on the basketball map instantly.

I'm not a Bobby Knight fan at all because his past and present abuse of players and press, and his overall arrogant attitude. But the idea to hire him was terrific. He has all the money he'd ever need, only wanting to prove his value as a coach.

So your "pipe dream" of hiring a Steve Spurrier definitely has merit. Had such a hire been made after last football season, you think CUSA would have made a slightly different choice in the recent expansion? Definitely!

Ah, yes, we can all dream.
