    Moats works out for Cowboys

Cowboys Work Out Local Draft Prospects Email StoryPrint Story

IRVING, Texas -- The Cowboys worked out about a dozen local prospects Friday at Valley Ranch as part of their annual "Dallas Day" workout before the draft.

The club is allowed to bring in players who either went to college or local high schools within a 50-mile radius of the organization.

Friday's workout included Louisiana Tech running back Ryan Moats, who rushed for 1,774 yards last season. Moats, who is considered a first-day pick (first three rounds) went to Dallas Bishop Lynch High School.

The Cowboys also looked at several former TCU players, including quarterback Brandon Hassell, wide receiver Reggie Harrell, tight end Cody McCarty, tackle Anthony Alabi and linebacker Martin Patterson.

Other players visiting including Missouri cornerback Shirdonya Mitchell, Missouri wide receiver Thomson Omboga, Morgan State receiver Tommy Manus, West Texas A&M receiver Anthony Armstrong, and Louisiana Tech defensive tackle Chris Van Hoy.

Last year, the Cowboys drafted two of the players who attended the Dallas Day workout, in cornerback Jacque Reeves, of Lancaster, and wide receiver DeSoto's Patrick Crayton. Next week, the Cowboys are expected to bring in 20 players to visit with the coaches and tour the facility, although they will not work out. In the past, these players have ranged from top-five picks to players who could go in the later rounds. Players expected to visit this year include USC wide receiver Mike Williams and Maryland linebacker Shawne Merriman. Here is the entire list of players who worked out Friday at Valley Ranch:
    Anthony Alabi, OT, TCU
Anthony Armstrong, WR, West Texas A&M
    Issa Banna, FB, Northwestern (La.)
Jeremy Davis, LB, Stephen F. Austin
    Jonathan Evans, FB, Baylor
    Reggie Harrell, WR, TCU
    Brandon Hassell, QB, TCU
    Trey Haverty, WR, Texas Tech
    Michael Hawkins, DB, Oklahoma
    Joey Hawkins, TE, Texas Tech
    Kaleen Jackson, LB, Texas A&M
    Tommy Manus, WR, Morgan State
    Cody McCarty, TE, TCU
    Ryan Moats, RB, Louisiana Tech
    Thomson Omboga, WR, Missouri
    Martin Patterson, LB, TCU
    Johnny Randle, LB, Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Jamaica Rector, WR, NW Missouri State
    Jonathan Simon, DT, Colorado State
Tyson Thompson, RB, San Jose State
Chris Van Hoy, DT, Louisiana Tech
    Sam Wilder, OT, Colorado

Good to see Chris Van Hoy get a workout with the Cowboys also.
I believe that his dad played for the Cowboys!

yes, i've seen him in person. many, many times. probably more times than most tech fans. i was interested in seeing what he can do in an actual nfl workout. obviously he's a pretty amazing workout warrior for him to have shot up the charts so much. that's what i meant by seeing what he can do.

As a Saints fan I would hate for him to go to the Falcons. Thats all they need is another weapon on offense to go against the Saints sorry defense.

My condolences. Being a saints fan is similar to being a heroin addict. You've hit bottom.

I think Danny would have made a decent QB if Da Coach hadn't thrown him to the wolves. The only image I have of DW is of him with his helmet turned sideways after a sack. He was looking through the earhole...that was sad.

But now, WOW...they've got Aaron "I'm Michael Vick's cousin" Brooks...

I second that. On top of that, I'm in North LA where most of the region sees the cowboys instead of the Saints anyway...hey Shreveport, can you say identity crisis? As if all the gimps up here that cheer for LSU aren't bad enough. I don't want him to go to the cowboys mainly because Julius Jones is the man and Moats wouldn't see the feild much. I don't want him to go to the Falcons because, as a Saints fan, I'd feel I was sinning everytime I watched and cheered for him. Wherever he goes, I think he's gonna make an immediate impact in some aspect of the game. I hope he gets a good opportunity to start a game or two this year.

Re: Moats works out for Cowboys

I'd love to see Ryan Moats with the Cowboys. Louisiana Tech has been basically shut out of DFW recruiting since Ryan signed with us.

It would be nice to have Ryan The Great telling multiple millions of young Cowboys fans almost DAILY what a great school Louisiana Tech is and encouraging athletes our way!

Being only 4 hours' drive from Ruston we might even see Ryan and friends regularly at Tech athletics fund raising events.
