Baseball Tech to Host Fresno State in WAC Series

RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech returns to action on Friday when the Bulldogs host Fresno State in the first game of a three-game Western Athletic Conference baseball series at J.C. Love Field.

Game times will be 6 p.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday with each contest to be broadcast on KNBB-FM (99.3).

Tech (12-22, 4-8 WAC) dropped two of three games to No. 11 Rice last weekend after defeating the Owls in the series opener, 3-2.

Fresno State is in third place in the WAC standings with the Bulldogs tied for 5th place as only four games separate the league’s six base

Ryan Hamilton is the hottest hitter in the conference and enters the series on a 17-game hitting streak for the Bulldogs.

The junior leads Tech with a .323 batting average with five home runs and 21 RBIs for the Bulldogs third baseman.

Fresno State (19-19, 5-4 WAC) dropped two of three games at San Jose State last weekend and this series will be the first games the Bulldogs have played outside of California all year.

Fresno State has one of the country’s top freshman in first baseman Beau Mills. Mills is hitting .324 with a WAC leading 10 home runs and 38 RBIs.

Tech trails the all-times series 13-5 but did split six games with Fresno State a year ago including taking two of three in Ruston.

Ryan Rupert (2-3, 3.07 ERA) and Clayton Meyer (2-6. 4.18) will start the first two games of the series while the Sunday starters is yet to be determined.

Rupert tossed 7 1/3 solid innings last Friday against Rice in the Bulldogs win over the Owls. The junior struck out nine and allowed just one earned run.

Meyer will try to rebound after dropping three straight decisions despite pitching well in all three starters but has been hurt with a lack of run support from the Bulldog offense.

I am not going to be able to go this weekend. Did we have good pitching and defense or did fresno just suck it up at the plate?
