    Another Transfer

I found out tonight that Jeremy Johnston is transfering to LSUS. He talked to Richard and he was ok with it. It will probably be public knowledge tomorrow.
I think he wanted to go to a place where he will be assured playing time. He would have limited playing time if he stuck around here for another year.

LSUS...maybe he could get some high school eligibility back and rejoin his high school team...not much difference!

LSUS and athletics...another glaring example of how Louisiana's politicians can figure out how to waste the good taxpayers' money!

Could be a good move for him. He will get a lot of playing time and I believe that LSU-S should be pretty good in the NAIA ranks with them adding Blankenship and some other D-1 transfers.

I was told yesterday that they are getting Josh Porter from SFA.

You were exactly right. Here is the story from The Times, courtesy of Scott Ferrell:

The LSU-Shreveport Pilots' restocking of their men's basketball roster continues with the addition of Louisiana Tech transfer Jeremy Johnston.

Johnston is the Pilots' second high-profile transfer this month. Earlier this month, former Tulsa guard Kyle Blankenship announced a decision to transfer to LSUS for his senior season. Johnston will also play his senior season for the Pilots. Both are former All-City players.

The addition of Johnston helps LSUS inside. Johnston is 6-foot-9 and weighs 257 pounds.

"We feel like Jeremy is going to play a big role for us in the post,'' LSUS coach Chad McDowell said. "He also has the ability to score down there. He's another piece in the puzzle for us.''

Johnston averaged 22.8 points and nine rebounds per game as a senior at Airline High School.

He played three seasons at Tech and averaged 2.1 points and 1.8 rebounds per game in 57 games with the Bulldogs.

"I am excited about playing for LSUS next season and the opportunity to play in front of my family and friends,'' Johnston said. "My high school teammate, Justin Collins, played at LSUS the last two seasons and he said he had the best time of his life. I can hardly wait to put on a uniform and get the season started.''

The Pilots lose three post players from last year's team which advanced to the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City, Mo. LSUS also finished the regular season ranked No. 7 nationally.

Personally, I look at this as another high school prospect that Richard has signed that, while looking very promising at signing, never panned out for the Bulldogs.

I just can't help wondering why.

Doesn't Rico Payne still play for them? I coached him in RPAR ball when he was 11 years old. He was the best ball handler for his age I've ever been around. Even then he could handle the ball with his head up and see the whole court. Many a time one of our players lost the ball because they were not expecting his passes. He was a hell of a shooter and one on one player too. My coaching carried us all the way to the championship (sarcasm).

Got to disagree with you there -

I hold a degree from LSUS and I would say their business department is on par - if not better than TECH's -

Plus they cater to the NON-traditional students, which TECH doesn't - I could not have gotten another degree at TECH taking night classes

And they network very well with TECH in the education and business - programs - virtually EVERYTHING is transferable between schools -

LSUS understands their niche in the educational world and play to those strengths - they don't try to be what they are not -

And Tech could learn a thing or two about being more student friendly from the administration of LSUS -

And all of thier athletics are exactly where they want them to be, they don't aspire to be D-1 in anything and everything is supported by the student athletic fee and gifts to the programs -

And they have a pretty savy little baseball program over there - went to their divisions World Series two years ago and almost won the whole thing -

I have dealt with a lot of accounting graduates and the ones from LSUS seem to be much better prepared than those from Tech.

    Re: Another Transfer

Yeh Tech's accounting has been in a bit of a rut over the past few years with a lot of turnover and some of our older teachers retiring or passing away. However, I was a Finance major and it was very good. Not out of biased but out of facts. Two or our teachers, Highfield and Rosskelley, came form very respected universities in the business world, Kentucky and Arizona, respectively. Accounting is just part of business and LA Tech does need to get better, but you cannot base the whole business school's performance off of one department. I have actually taken my finance degree and become an accountant. I credit it to a great overall business education at Tech. They are also trying to do a 1.5 milloin dollar upgrade over the next few years. Not to mention that Tech offers twice as many majors as LSUS. I do have to say though that Tech is not very catering to the non-trad student at all. No Net classes and not many night classes.

I do have to say though that Johnston looked pretty bad playing for Tech. I dont know if he was nervous or what, but the guy would air ball a 4 foot hook shot. I am not making fun, i am being serious. He looked scared out there. Maybe a change in scenery and a lower brand of ball will make him more comfortable.

You missed my point. While I don't think LSUS should have ever been constructed, it is there now and will remain. My point was that LSUS should not have an athletic program of any type because it costs money that should be spent on LSUS' main mission: education.

the same thing could be said about tech.

but the fact remains that athletics is a tool that can be used to enhance every student's educational experience -- even at lsus.

i wish jeremy the best of luck. the pilots have a good chance at a national title next year. wish tech could say the same.

Well, I believe that all schools should be able to get sports if they want them. I do agree with you there prof, that it is a good tool to get peeple to come to your school But will anybody care if LSUS wins whatever national title they win. Iw ould rather be struggling in D1 than be in smalltimers division.

everybody has a different attitude about this type of thing. i know many people that would rather be a 1-aa power than continue to struggle in 1-a if we aren't going to make a commitment to success.

will anybody care? sure. as many as tech? no. would anybody care if we won the wac in baseball? you could argue there may be a few hundred. did anybody care about our women's wac indoor title? you could argue even less there. i bet more would care about lsus' national title in basketball.

it doesn't matter how many fans they have at lsus. they do have fans. and people are attracted to winning. plus mcdowell makes it fun over there, so people are also interested in that.

the pilots do have quite a few fans, most likely more than many junior colleges.
