Yeah, I can't help but wonder if Kubik might have hit his stride earlier if he wasn't looking over his shoulder. But then again, I didn't see either of them in practice.

Kubik was given many more chances at the job than Allen. If Kubik screwed up, he got another chance, if Allen screwed up he never see's any more meaningful minutes again. I always wondered how Allen would have done if he never would have had to look over his shoulder. Champion should have been given a shot at starting QB last year.Originally Posted by Brian96
If you'll remember Allen was handed the starting job and then hurt his shoulder. He never seemed to be the same. When I saw him battle Kubik last year he didn't seem to have the confidence or the stride that won him the job in the first place. Allen may have been looking over his shoulder, but had he not gotten hurt Kubik may not have ever had significant playing time.Originally Posted by Mr. Pimp
He might have gotten his confidence back if he was given half the chances that Kubik was. And 2 years ago Allen should have been given the starting job after the spring, because he earned it. I just want people to say that Kubik was given many more chances to get the starting job than Allen, and the coaches still should have given Zac a shot at the starting job. Our coaches did a very poor job of handling the battle for starting QB last season and I hope they do a much better job this year.Originally Posted by scubbdog
For some inexplicable reason that used to burn me up. I don't think it was the fact that it was a nasty gatorade hat that looked like he wiped his butt with as much as it was the fact that he seemed more preoccupied with getting it on his head immediately after an offensive series, successful or not.Originally Posted by Dwayne From Minden
After throwing interceptions for three straight series, he would jog back to the sideline and the first thing he would do would motion for the girl to bring him his hat. I taught myself alot about self control during that regrettable period.
Hopefully the Buccaneers at least bought him a new hat. That Gatorade lid he had at Tech was past due for an oil change.
Allen was the starter 2 years ago. He got hurt and was never himself after that. We gave him chances and he just couldn't go back to what brought him the starting job.Originally Posted by Mr. Pimp
lord people forget over time. Allen never did seem comfortable handling a rush. I was sitting there in Knoxville when he was knocked out and it was all because he didnt have any confidence and didnt know what to do when pressured. For some reason he was running toward the sidelines instead of getting rid of the dang ball, something Kubik had a grasp on and the two prevoius QB's didnt. I've said it before, there's not another 1-a program in the country other than ours that Allen would have ever started for. Dont get me wrong, Allen was a great kid, and his story is a great one as far as being a walk on and fighting for a scholy. But great story lines dont always make for great situations.Originally Posted by scubbdog
I agree with this statement. How does that old saying go - If you have 2 very good quarterbacks, it just means you don't have 1 great quarterback. I hope we have a clear cut starter and backup or else it means we don't have a quarterback capable of beating BCS teams.Originally Posted by cocodawg34
We should get Rattay and Edwards to come back and give the pre-game speech about how the Blackshirts are no more and there is no reason to be intimidated by Nebraska. Hopefully, the defense will step up also.
Choud, I was going to say something along those lines but you beat me to it. I was at the Tenn game too and had Kubik not come into the game we may have lost by 60. I was very impressed with Kubik's poise and he had some success in finding WR's when under pressure. I knew from that moment Kubik was our man for the season-like him or not, he was the best we had .Originally Posted by Choudawg86
one major reason we lost to kansas was bicknell's refusal to pull allen in the third quarter when he gave the ball up two times in a row. he got exactly the same opportunity as kubik -- two quarters each in the first two thrown-away games. same thing in the season before, except he was the starter until he got hurt. your version of history is not going to convince anyone that allen was mistreated.Originally Posted by Mr. Pimp
No two QBs have the same qualities and tendencies, so it is unfair for the rest of the offense to have to adjust during a big game.
Never said he was mistreated, I was pointing that Kubik got too many chances. Would you have had a problem starting Champion at QB last year?Originally Posted by arkansasbob
Kubik was the better QB last year. Face it. He might not have had the most upside of all of our QBs but he was the most consistent and put us in a place to win.Originally Posted by Mr. Pimp
Than Champion? How would you or any of us know that?Originally Posted by Juice752
