    Local Alumni Chapters

Someone posted asking if there was a local alumni chapter and it reminded me that I was meaning to ask something similar.

Other universities have local alumni chapters but as far as I know, we don't. I think it's a great idea to get people together and a way to meet people that you have somewhat of a connection with already.

I live in Houston and when I moved here I knew 2 people - my roommate from college and her husband. I am in sales so I work from home (really limits the office friendships). Having an alumni group would have been a great way to meet people! I went to grad school at LSU (please....no booing! ) and I can tell you that within a couple months of me moving to San Diego and then to Houston, I received a letter informing me of one of their alumni groups upcoming events. It would be great to do be able to do something similar.

While I appreciate the activities that the alumni association puts on in cities around Louisiana and Texas, I think that something more "official" led by someone local would be beneficial to getting more alumni involved.

    Just a thought...

And please correct me if I have missed out on groups like this existing!

I'm pretty sure that there are several of these groups including one IN Houston. Check out this site... http://www.zlatech.com/association/contacts.php

Scroll down and there are some Texas contacts. Strangly enough there is no contact under Tyler.... humm... so who's droppin that ball!! :icon_wink

With a new alumni director, the opportunity to do new things are good. As long as the same old people wrote checks, the last guy didn't care what happened.

Thanks for the link. I think we can do more than just having a contact though! Actually having events would be nice! And with the football game at A&M this fall, there is a great opportunity for the Houston folks to host a tailgate or something. That of course requires organization which appears to be somewhat lacking!!

I'm looking forward to some fresh, new ideas from our alumni team. I did attend one of the Houston Explosion events last night and it was a good time. Small crowd but a good time.
