The athletes on this team CAN shoot the ball. I would feel differently, if I didn't know the stats (points) they are capable of. While we don't have pure shooters on the team, we have players that have scored tons of points.

I still think it is coming down to something psychological.

    Post Both are issues

In another recent thread titled "bad shooting", Tech78 made a valid point about Leon ( & Sonja ) recruiting shooters ( think about Mulkey's high school scoring record at the time ) then teaching them defense ( same thing with AT - Angela Turner, for U youngsters! ).:icon_wink: I was fortunate to be a 'Dawg during those glory years & that seemed to be exactly the scenario. Even the players bought into the system & checked their egos at the door to play their new roles ( Kim NEVER complained about being moved to point guard & she's got multiple national championships ( player & coach ) plus an Olympic gold medal to show for that sacrifice! ) Eboni's certainly got the ability to score but we need some senior leadership.
The players aren't the only ones w/o emotion. The coaches don't seem to have the fire either. Granted, Leon's scowl was usually enough to get the player's attention but think about the other successful coaches in the business - Pat Summit; Geno; Kim ( again ). They don't hesitate to get in a player's face on national TV & if they don't respond then they sit!! I agree that Coach Long is an excellent recruiter but time will tell if he can coach. Remember that Budke was Leon's original choice to take over the program ( AFTER the administration let Kim get away over a stupid power play!! ) & we all saw how THAT turned out!!
I will continue to attend & support the Techsters because they need us now more than ever. Still, I'm frightened by what LSU & the Lady Vols R gonna do to us! :bigcry:

Next up is Iowa at Iowa. If we don't get it together soon, we are going to have another problem there.

The shooting woes have been around for last season and the start of this season. It concerns me that it does not seem to improve any. I agree. We have talent. We just arent shooting. I don t know the stats, it seems our free throw shooting is suffering as well. This is one thing we cant blame Jim Oakes for. HA HA . This is an individual working extra time shooting shooting shooting.

It would mean a whole lot to this team if Shan would get it together. When someone that CAN score DOESN'T score, it turns into a head game. I feel that is what has happened. Yelling and screaming don't do a lot for that in basketball. She has to come out of it on her own.

Emotion does respond to yelling and screaming, though. At least for some.

    A very interesting observation, 110.

I don't ever remember seeing the players "smiling and joking around" on the bench during a losing game when Leon Barmore held the reins.

In fact, I cannot even imagine it.

To me, this indicates that the players might have little or no respect for the H.C. ??

    Not a good sign.

Champ - Don't do anything drastic. Hopefully the "0"fer season will be over, but don't hold your breath.

No breath holding from me. This is the game that I had marked down as our first possible loss. We beat them by storming back at the TAC last year and going into double OT. They are 5-0 on the season. THIS is gonna be a tough one. They are hyped up about the possibility of beating us.

That article on the home page about Iowa hoping to exact some revenge got me thinking, and it relates to your theory about no "fire." It's like the Techsters have no clue that they are walking around with big targets on their back.

I wrote a letter to the team early yesterday morning. I sent it through Coach Long. I hope that they received it.

I can't image Leon putting up with players laughing and joking around on the bench, especially when getting your butts kicked. Sounds like a lack of discipline to me. I don't necessarily think that is upper administration's fault, though. There should be a certain amount of pride involved when putting that Lady Techster jersey on. Things just don't seem to be the way they used to be. Someone else said that Tech needs some pure shooters, and I agree. That happens after practice is over. These girls need to be shooting on their own. JMO
