As Pers said in another thread we called Bick on the carpet for phoning in the second half, WE should also call Sceflo or Dooley or whoever else phoned in this game.

This game was WINNABLE, and we found a way to lose it.
They didn't phone it in in the second half... Fresno figured us out. We had 100 yards rushing in the first half and 2 in the second half. They simply took our strength away, and we couldn't make them pay for it with a good passing game. We tried... we threw 48 passes. But, we don't have the players right now to make a team pay for stacking the box. Every team will do it from here on out. Our coaches are going to earn their money this year trying to figure out a way to score points with no passing game.

I still say we can have a passing game that's focused on the tight ends. That'll open things up big time. It can be an intermediate passing game that will give the qb the ability to work out his deep ball.

He's always looking for the bail-out or overthrowing the long ball so that it won't get intercepted. The kid just isn't getting it done and I don't think Dennis can help him stop locking in on one receiver or looking to dump the ball off, he has to quarterback.

Check Dooley's comments on the game, he lays the offensive deficiencies at the feet of Champion. Quarterbacks deserve most of the praise and they deserve most of the blame.
I don't care who our QB is, if this play calling doesn't get better it really won't matter! Scelfo (sp?) or Saran Wrap or whatever you want to call him doesn't cut it so far and unacceptable. And before people jump on me for that, I am fully aware of many of our deficiancies in many areas and other teams have them too. I need to see a change by Saran Wrap rest of season to change defenses.

    Re: Where's Scelfo??

We called 20 rushing plays in the first half for 101 yards (not including the knee going into halftime)

We have the lead coming out of the locker roon and we called 6 rushing plays in the second half. 6 rushing plays!!!

YES, they had 8 in the box. We also had runs on two of those plays of 6 yards and 17 yards (not counting Champion's run of 13 as that was a passing play).

YES, actually completing a pass would have helped, but we let THEM tell US what we were going to do. We did not IMPOSE OUR WILL on them. Hell, we didn't ATTEMPT to impose anything on them. WE HAD THE DAMN LEAD, and we let THEM dominate the rest of the game.

Here's another point: People keep saying that we had to pass the ball with 8 in the box. We had Wheeler injured, Joe Anderson injured, Shawn Simmons injured, Womack dropping balls, Livas dropping balls. Here's an idea. Bring in a 6th OLineman, drop a WR and cancel their 8th man in the box. 6 OL, 2 WR, 1 QB, 1 TE, 1 RB. You can run and throw from this formation just fine. It's the same as the 2 TE formation, but we have a OLineman blocking instead of the TE. Make it Rob McGill since we recruited him as a TE anyways.

We ran 3 wide almost the whole second half. We lined up D-Mo outside one time and I believe that we called a running play.

Couldnt agree more. In fact, we gave up on the run BEFORE halftime - even though we were having sucess.

We should have stayed with it. Old time football. Run, run, run, run, deep playaction pass(dont care if its completed). REPEAT!!

That last one really had me baffled.

And you are right. It is not like we started passing to adjust to their defense. We threw nearly every down of the first series of the second half. That just makes no sense. YES, it would have been great to establish a passing game early in the second half (which I assume was the goal of gambling on all those passes) but it does NOT make sense to almost completely bail on the thing that was working so well in the first half.

Thanks Brian. Not to forget that the second drive in the second half was 3 straight passes and punt.

Why in the world did we got into panic mode when we had the lead 6-3??

Scelfo calls the plays? Does Dooley have nothing to say about it?

Heck, run the wishbone since we cannot pass or catch. 6 yards and a cloud of dust works for me while keeping the clock running rather than stopping with all of our incomplete passes.

Lets face it fellows, We just dont have any playmakers. between over/under thrown, dropped passes and not beign able to line up and whup somebody we offer very little threat on offense. I think DD is building the base for the future by playing a lot of people especially freshmen. All that said I am still opptismistic about the future but if I hear one more time that ZC gives us the best chance to win, I'll throw up
