Good lord, you people need to get a life and realize you can support both! LSU is the flagship school of the state, and I am proud of it!
Though I agree with the statement, it's weak... college sports is still sports. Picking a team for whatever reason, is just like picking your favorite professional/minor team and such... each has their own. It's up to the fans, and teams, to make others be fans of their team.
I went by the store yesterday. There was a small box with something small that was being sold. It looks like it was put there by a jobber. The store is painted up with Tech homecoming writing.
I asked the lady at the counter about the LSU stuff. Keep in mind, I kept it very light. She said she did not notice it until I brought it to her attention. She had not sold any of what was in the box. When I asked her whether she liked Tech or LSU better, she said, and I quote, "My favorite team is the Cowboys." I realized then she didn't have a dog in this hunt.
Mike was the thing you were concerned about the box that was by the counter farthest from the door?

LSU's enrollment is down also.
I agree with you up to the point that an individual becomes an alum of a school. For any Joe Blow that didn't graduate from a college, then yeah, college sports is just sports. However, the argument is not weak when taken in context of one's school graduate supporting another school over his alma mater. You do have more invested in the school you chose to attend over the other one so it should get your loyalty.
you know, i actually find myself stuggling with this somewhat. I'm raising the boy to be a "Dawg" and he is severely brainwashed already. Now, if for some reason he would go somewhere else to college other than Tech I would hope he would continue to be a huge Dawg fan. That being said, I would be somewhat of a hypocrite by being pissed at someone that was attending Tech but up to that point had been raised an lsu fan. I guess where find myself standing is somewhere in the middle. I guess i would hope that if that was the case the individual would support both schools in someway.
In a past life I was a supplier to the U-Pak-It buying/marketing group. Evans Oil is the jobber, and therfore typically owns the canopies and pumps at the location. Bennie Evans has for about a year and a half been trying to rebrand his locations. That is how the change to Chevron came about. Now back to the U-PAk-it part. As a buying/marketing group these independant business have banded together to be able to buy products at a better price and market their stores with a common brand. Many of their programs are mandatory as far as how they are presented in the stores (this is to provide the uniformity necessary to build a brand). Now I don't pretend to know wheter the college merchandise program is one of those mandatory programs, but I would hate for Tech fans to stop supporting a long time Bulldog suporter b/c of a decision out side of their complete control. As for the employee, that is definately something that could be addressed with the owners but unfortunatly stupidity is protected by the first ammendment. Just my 2 cents.
Naturally, you'd still want him to be Dawg fan, but surely you'd understand if he put his alma mater first. I really don't have a problem with Tech alums that want to pull for LSU. It's when they put all their resources into LSU instead of Tech and only pull for Tech by checking the Sunday paper to see if we won or not that I have a problem with them.
Maybe they were pocket fans, I don't know. However, they are still on the counter, it is just that they have been moved to the second register away from the door.
I know the owner, and he is a big time Tech supporter. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt untilI can talk to him personally. Again, it looks like a jobber put those there.
