How do you feel about Dooley as AD?

Max excitement, Dooley is THA MAN!!!!!
Excited about this hire!
Cautiously Optimistic
Probably not right.
Very disappointed. period.
GAAAAH THE SKY IS FALLING, BACK TO THE SUNBELCH ASAP! KNOW YOUR PLACE TECH!
I would say cautiously optimistic. I would say that Dooley has great potential as an athletic director, just like he has being a head coach. But can he do both simultaneously? Unless they increase the staffing in the AD's office and put quality people around him, probably not.
To be a success at both, Dooley has to administrate and not work as the AD. The more work he winds up doing the worse it will be for us.
At BEST - a short-term fix for a problem that needed a long-term solution....
At WORST - we spend ourselves to oblivion and have a bigger mess with our athletic department than we have right now -
I honestly don't think there is anything in between those two -
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
I agree Dwayne. No way this is the long term fix. I respect Dooley. He could be a good football coach. He could be a good AD. Can he be good at both? Now we are like most high school in LA, the head football coach is the AD.
I also agree that this is not a long-term solution. Even though I believe it is wrong to hire someone while also thinking about how to replace him down the road, I hope there is a plan formulating on how to hire a full-time AD in the relatively near future (I'm thinking within 2 years).
If you are going to include a choice like your last one, you should make the results public so we can at least see if it is really a Tech fan freaking out or just a flamer skewing the results (at the time I posted this, that choice had no votes, I'm just making a general suggestion for polls - I almost always wish the results were public, it is almost as interesting to see who votes for what as it is to see the vote totals).
In a related story, Derek Dooley has just been named Vice President of Student Affairs.
I'm all for him being our AD. He certainly can't do any worse than his predecessor. Dooley seems like a big thinker, which is good. As long as he can make that work within our budget (all while increasing our budget) we are in good shape.
I think that there is a bigger picture that we can't see yet. Dooley is a great leader and an inspirational speaker -- if the fan base doesn't respond to him, then we have no one to blame but ourselves. It's time to put up or shut up IMHO.
I'm cautiously optimistic. I think he is going to push to get a lot things done that need to be done. This is going show us what kind of support we really have at the top.
I think, when justifying this hire, we need to get over the mentality of "he can't do worse than his predecessor" or "I'd take him over Joakes anyday", etc... That is not what the other choice could have been. Anyway, I've been trying to hold it in because I don't want to sound negative, and I think most know I've been against this, but I really don't think Dooley is concerned with the entire athletic department as he is football. I'm not saying the others won't get attention. Just that it won't be by Dooley. I think he agreed to take this position for one reason and one reason only. To improve football facilities. I agree with what someone said that he won't interfere with the other sports, but I don't think he will really give them much attention. I believe he will be involved in fundraising but primarily in relation to football. I'm not making a judgement on that, just stating what I think will happen. Although, I do believe that the AD should be equally concerned about all programs. Even though I disagree with this move, I'll still continue to support Tech and do what I can when I can.
