My reply:
Dude... Weak.
"I’m not sure why you think Tech is in competition with LSU in the first place. They are in two totally different levels at the moment."
They both play on Saturday.
Just learn from the negative reaction. Take the criticism and move on. You don't write about the Red Sox in a New York newspaper. You don't wear a Yankees hat to interview Terry Francona. You are learning to be a journalist, well this was a mistake. Now get stronger or stop writing.
I'm not going to make excuses for what I wrote. It's what I believe in. I'm not going to make a comment on those people who question my sexuality, wish for me to get beat up or are trying to have me fired from a job I'm not only not getting any pay for, but actually paying money to do.
It just really shows what kind of fan base Tech truly has. If someone, even college student trying to learn, writes anything negative about their school, its alright to post what ever they about their personal life and families personal life. Man this is a fan base close to my heart.
How bout y'all make a pose and go around campus lynching every student wearing LSU gear. My first class today there was five people wearing hats, three LSU hats, one Atlanta Braves hat and one wearing a Tech hat ... Me. It just so happens a prominent football player is in the same class, but he hasn't said anything about it.
You get the pose together come by around 9:45 and you can lynch you three tech students. Don't tell me when you are coming by on the off chance I'm wearing my LSU hat cause it would be the perfect excuse to impart the bodily harm some many of you wish for me to go through.
I had the balls to attach my name to a post, I would like the same respect please. Especially the guy that questioned my sexuality, the people that wish me bodily harm and the one that insulted my dad.
As for bringing my dad into this, very very low. As for being dumb as a brick, he graduated Tech in 1969 with a business degree, you may find it at centennial walkway under Paul Stephen Sims. After a few years in business, he decided to go back to school and obtained his Doctorate in Pharmacy at North East, now known as ULM. He must be a very, very dumb man.
Now onto contacting my superiors. Please make all electronic complaints directly to Sallie Rose Hollis and Envision@latech.edu since Mr. Hilburn does not check his email or phone messages. He is also gone from the office a lot so it will be hard to track him down, but if you can please show him your displeasure.
As for contacting Tech's coaching staff and administration. Feel free with that too. I'm sure Dooley = will love all the emails and do everything in his power to make me miserable because everyone knows it will be a good thing for an Athletic director to alienate the media, even college press, during his first year as AD.
Try something similar at another school - you'll find the reaction at Tech mild. Seriously, as badly as our fans over-react, watch the nutcases come out of the woodwork if you ever slam an SEC school. Give us a good ULM bashing that gets linked in the NS and see what happens. I'm not saying personal attacks on you or your family are ok (they aren't), but I doubt Tech is even in the same league as many other schools in our region (how about that - I'm a Tech fan, but I'm willing to concede that other schools are "more elite" than us in at least one thing).
My theory on this is that your personal feelings are your personal feelings, but if I was a student I would expect my student paper to contain information on my team. Newsworthy is newsworthy - so national titles, upcoming opponents, conference foes, etc might merit some ink, but why should Tech fans have to read lovey-dovey stuff about other schools?
Go to LSU and write that they're not as good as Arkansas or Alabama. You'll have more to worry about than someone calling you gay or complaing to you/your boss. BTW, many people here, including myself, do/did tell people wearing LSU crap on campus to get rid of it. You're an embarrassment to Tech and the Tech Talk, please quit if you're going to continue this crap.
First off, I think you mean "posse". Secondly, I applaud you for wearing a Tech hat. As for the ones wearing LSU hats, they need to realize how they are disrespecting our university. As for the Tech player, maybe he has a little more tolerance than I. I have a feeling that he is just waiting to do his talking on the field this fall.
It is students like these that are suppressing the pride and loyalty that Tech is striving to instill. As a reporter for The Talk Talk, you have a strong influence on the way a lot of students believe and act. I wish you could sit back and see what impact this is having on our university. It is major stumbling block, in my opinion, to Tech becoming a national player. I can promise you that a student would not wear an Alabama hat on LSU's campus. You know why? Because they have instilled pride in their university. Precisely what we want to do at Louisiana Tech.
Typical childish response. Feels like he has a right to speak what's on his mind then whines and cries when others express non-favorable opinions about him and his writings. A little advice lackey-don't give your opinion if you can't handle the fallout. And incidentally, you're the one that brought your father into the fray by mentioning him in your blog.
Okay Lacky I'd give you a couple of suggestions, but, heh, Tech Talk is a lab so my suggestions do not have a bearing on your grade.
If you're gonna do anything in a reply the FIRST thing you do is THANK the reader for reading your stuff . . . even if it is of a personal ego nature. As a professional you learn that how you feel doesn't matter, but how do your readers feel. If you can't thank them, then eventually you'll end up with no readers and no job and wonder what happened in the meantime.
And, if you're gonna write about how you feel, then change your screen name here. You could use a little more depth in a name. . . than Lacky.

Amen to that. You can write about your feelings all you want, but the reaction a reader has towards your article will ultimately determine where you have a job. And you have to take criticism professionaly. Don't get all defensive when your audience has negative reactions. Try to take a step back and put yourself in our shoes and maybe you can learn a very valuable lesson that will help you in your career.
Any journalism student who doesn't know the difference between the word "pose" and the word "posse" is obviously a flake who deserves not to be published or read.![]()
This is pretty funny. I've just got two things I'd like to say.
1. YOU linked your blog on this board. You were trying to drive up the hits and so you posted here. Mission accomplished, but it appears to have come with a price. Had you done 5 minutes of research (there's a search function...enter LSU and get busy reading), you would've known EXACTLY how this blog entry would be received by the members of this board. Instead, like many others, you decided to write a cutesy little post about how you've always loved LSU...in a TECH TALK BLOG!!!! You expressed your opinion, now others have expressed theirs. That's how this stuff works. Journalism is one thing, blogs are a VERY different thing. You're not reporting, you're giving your opinion and BEGGING others to read it. In short, you asked for it.
2. In your response, you've focused on those who made crude remarks or took low blows and you've still not addressed the VERY valid issue that you, a Tech Talk writer, have written a blog for the Tech Talk that's about LSU. I don't care who you cheer for, who you watch, ect. When you write for Tech, you shouldn't belittle the program that is educating you. You shouldn't belittle the athletes that you go to class with. You should show respect for OUR University.

Nothing I said was lovey dovey about LSU.
They are more relevent in the national scale. They have a deeper tradition. LSU does not compete with other schools within the state. Plan and simple. That's all I said.
The audience I want to direct this piece and who will like this piece, are like minded with me. We support the State of Louisiana, all schools, professional or collegiate. The questions do come up when the instate teams play, but with the exception of the Sun Belt teams and Grambling/Southern no team plays each other on a yearly basis.
There are more people that support both Tech and LSU than there are just rabid Tech fans. That's who I'm going to write too. As rabid Tech fans, please alienate this contingency more. Its the perfect way to weed out all the wannabe fans from the real ones. Lets limit the games to the few hundred die hards.
You directed it to THIS audience when YOU linked it on this board.
LSU's national relevance doesn't matter at all...go write for the LSU paper.

TechTalkLacky - You are not helping your position. There are lots of legitimate criticisms that you fail to address. Instead you focus on the two or three insults. (BTW - Those insults are mostly just making light of the matter. That's what a laughing smiley face means on a message board.)
Please... I'm seriously asking you to step away from the keyboard... learn a lesson... then either get better or move on.
