OK that I can get into.

I listen to Coheed & Cambria more than anything else these days. The lead singer's voice takes getting used to, but the drums and guitar are awesome. They have an Emo progressive thing going.

Get the album Ear Candy.

anything off the 'dogman' cd is pretty good...although that is probably the least progressive of all their albums. some of my favorites are 'dogman' and 'cigarettes'...there 'welcome home mr bulbous' cd is pretty interesting. they make me think 'this is what the beatles would have sounded like if they were a metal band.'

it's not quite the same genre as the other bands you listed, but the high level of musicianship is there along with the mixing in of odd time...you may like it. let me know your opinion.

i had dogman and ear candy on tape. those were both pretty good albums. some of the lyrics are pretty lame, so i can agree with the beatles comparison. :icon_wink:

i think the vocals are what make them stand out from everybody else...but the lyrics can be pretty weak. and there is a difference between weak lyrics (king's x) an lyrics that are just weird as hell (beatles)...just saying.

by the way if you search king's x on you tube, you will see some of the gayest videos ever made...turn your screen off and just listen to the music so that you don't get biased prematurely.

I understand. I actually dislike the screaming part of it. And the screaming is at the forefront with this band. I can handle these guys only one song at a time. I certainly could not listen to a whole album in one sitting. It has taken me a long time to get past the screaming - it is incredibly dissonant and aggressive, and IMO overpowers everything else in the song. I would prefer to listen to Haake drum solos, but this is the closest think I have found.

I have a hard time with the screaming on that kind of thing, too. If I want unusual time signatures I'll just whip out the ole Brubeck.

listen to any king's x?

So, I have listened to a few of their songs on Youtube now. The vocals are irritating to me, both lyrically and stylistically. Like Meshuggah, I am sure this is band I would have to listen to for a while before I can truly appreciate the instrumentation. I am sure that a higher fidelity version of the songs would make a difference too. Wouldn't it be great if all recordings came with the ability to turn on and off different tracks? I heard the new NIN album came with an interactive setup for Mac's which allow you to alter the song (deselect certain tracks, loop segments, etc.).
