GET KNOWLEGE: Random Wikipedia Article of the Day!

Here's something new I'm trying out. This thread could be a lot of fun.

Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page and hit alt-shift-x

OR, simply go directly to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random

A random article will pop up. You'll learn something. Let's talk about it. If you get a stub, or a one-line article or something, feel free to try again until you get something with some substance.

    ---

Today I got Chet A. Wynne (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chet_A._Wynne). Fullback for Notre Dame from 1920-1922 who went on to play professionally for the, here we go, ROCHESTER JEFFERSONS of the NFL. Rochester had an NFL team?! I'm following up on this. Went on to coach at Auburn and Kentucky where he was a .500 guy.

    Rochester?!?!

I learned that Pakistan has beaches (or at least one, anyway). I thought it was landlocked. Hawkes Bay beach is one of the few nesting places of marine turtles. Who knew.

"Amusement Parks USA" is a song written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love for the American pop band The Beach Boys. It was released on their 1965 album Summer Days (and Summer Nights!!).

Love me some beach boys, Brian Wilson had the right idea....just stay in bed.

The Hóc Môn district is a district of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.
The district has 11 wards: Nhị Bình, Xuân Thới Thượng, Xuân Thới Sơn, Bà Điểm, Đông Thạnh, Tân Hiệp, Thới Tam Thôn, Trung Chánh, Tân Xuân, Tân Thới Nhì, Xuân Thới Đông, and Xuân Thới Sơn; and 1 township: Hóc Môn. 7 wards split to create district 12: Thạnh Lộc, An Phú Đông, Tân Thới Hiệp, Đông Hưng Thuận, Tân Thới Nhất, a piece of Tân Chánh Hiệp and a piece of Trung Mỹ Tây.

Between 1698 and 1731, some people from the northern and central regions of Vietnam moved to Hóc Môn to escape the constant warfare between the Nguyen and the Trinh. At that time, this area was still undeveloped land, with wild animals including tigers roaming free. Because a great deal of taro grew in the swampy areas there, the new settlers called this place "Hóc Môn," meaning "the corner/alley with taro."

Spearhead was a British television series. Produced by Southern Television and broadcast on the ITV network, it ran for a total of three series and 19 episodes from 1978 to 1981. It featured the daily lives of a group of soldiers in 'B' Company, 1st Battalion Royal Wessex Rangers, a fictional British Army infantry regiment. Set during the late 1970s, the series is regarded as an accurate depiction of life during that time for soldiers in the army.

By the way, I like this thread. I can get "lost" on Wikipedia very easily. I'll go there to look something up and before I know it I have "opened in new tab" links all across my browser.
