    Cute.

Wrong, but still a nice retort.

And today I have Mindy Smith One Moment More and the standout song is a hidden track cover of a Dolly Parton song. How's that?

Don't be a hater, Guiss. Some poor fools have to resort to listening to music that they find personally edifying. Not everyone has the capacity to base their music selections on how well it strokes their ego and proves their superiority to other beings.

I think Austin knows I am just messing with him. As far as music that "strokes the ego" I am not exactly sure what genre that is (the first song that popped into my head was "I'm Too Sexy"), but I suspect you are generally referencing the fact that I am a self-professed music snob. But, as a proud member of the music snobbery club, I think most of us like the music we do because it is the only music we find the least bit appealing. We only feel superior because the rest of you like sucky music. :icon_wink: In other words, us music snobs do not choose our music based on what we believe will make us appear superior but use superior criteria for judging music.

Well, I guess Dolly and Mindy didn't make anyone's head explode. Here is another "kind of" country woman - one who should be named a national treasure:

Shame she can't find a decent slide guitar player. . .

    Oops, forgot my emoticons. :icon_wink:

And to your last comment I would simply say, "perception is reality" and "beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

Seriously, though, I used to be a music snob, too. In fact, I switched my major from music because I got SO caught up in the technical aspects of musical theory that I totally got away from the fun and freedom that music brings. Once I understood that music taps directly into the emotions (and this is literally the case, as the neural systems that are generally activated by music are those associated with emotion rather than reason), I figured pretty much anything goes, as it will touch someone in some way. I mostly get hung up on lyrics, now, because research also shows that lyrics do exert influence on people, despite claims by many that "I don't listen to the lyrics, I just like the music." That is when I stopped listening to music that "feels" harsh or dark to me.

That's weird. I switched from music when I was enrolled in 9 classes and receiving 8 hours!

I would've been okay with it if it was going to make me rich. As it was, I'd just be dawg tired and poor. I'm still gonna be poor, but at least I'll be having fun.

Oh, and as a lyrics guy, what do you think of Ross King (in general and his latest CD Perhaps I've said too Much)?

that's a good job, austin. you didn't tell me you took up slide guitar. i wish you would raise your head up so we can all see your face under that hat.

bobby flay did a pretty good job on lead there, too.

i've been a lyrics guy lately, too. that's why i've been identifying some of the music i've been listening to by my favorite lines.

i still listen to some harsh/dark stuff just like i still read poetry that is harsh or dark. edgar allen poe, one of the original "dark" american authors, said himself that art is all about beauty. it's true even if it points to beauty by contrast.

good poetry married to good music is one of the great pleasures in life.

    Need to break-out some Rush....

Their liner notes really lend some insight to the group -
