Alexandria has now gotten most of its' infrastructure restored but there's still about 20% of Rapides Parish w/o power ( mostly rural areas ). The main streets R clear & I see LOTS of traffic on I-49 moving in both directions. My sister came up from St. Bernard to stay w/me during the storm but went back early this morning. Traffic was heavy on I-10 but flowing slowly. She said that there was VERY little flooding but a good deal of the area is w/o power & water.
BTW - CNN & the other major networks ( in the quest to sensationalize things, IMHO! ) "mistakenly"ran 2005 file footage of Katrina's levee breeches but put it up as Gustav-caused breeches. Nice that they checked their facts before airing mis-information & upsetting the 'Nawlins folks who evacuated up here!!
I know this isn't a political thread but I must give props to Gov. Jindal & the state/local governments as a whole.I don't blame former Gov. Blanco totally for the problems w/Katrina & Rita BUT U can certainly see where Jindal & others learned from those 2 storms & THIS is the way to handle it from now on!!
My prayers go out to those who have suffered in any way, shape or form due to Gustav. Now let's hope that Ike doesn't come knocking!!
