The average November temperature of 44.5 degrees F was 2.0 degrees F above the 20th Century average. Precipitation across the contiguous United States in November averaged 1.93 inches, which is 0.20 inch below the 1901-2000 average.

For the January-November period, the average temperature of 54.9 degrees F was 0.3 degree above the 20th Century average. The nation’s January-November temperature has increased at a rate of 0.12 degrees per decade since 1895, and at a faster rate of 0.41 degrees each decade during the last 50 years. All findings are based on a preliminary analysis of data based on records dating back to 1895.
this amuses me. why report data for the january-november period? my guess: because the one-year period ending in november was below average. november was warm enough to put the january-november period above average, so they quickly released that information. when this cold december drops 2009 back below average, they probably won't report that.

seriously, every year, even relatively cold ones, is going to have some months above average. that's the nature of an average. usually half of the time is above and half of the time is below.

i also noticed that they're reporting in farenheit instead of the usual celcius. could that be because the number looks so small when you report it in degrees c?

Temperatures in the USA don't really mean that much since AGW is a global event. The main feature of AGW is that the lowest temperatures of the planet are slowly increasing. Hence, the area contained in the Arctic Circle is the part of the planet taking the full brunt of the AGW event. CONUS has not experience much AGW.......yet. BUt unless we act to limit CO2 emissions, we will see more and more "weird" weather in CONUS. The time for denial is over.

Yeah, man, and then we can do some deep sea fishing over BR. All those abandon buildings will make perfect breeding grounds for fish.

President-elect Barack Obama, meeting Tuesday with former Vice President Al Gore, declared "the time for denial is over" on global warming and pledged to retool the U.S. energy grid using new technologies.

While few details emerged from the closed-door meeting, it appears clear that Gore - a politician who once stood virtually alone on the dangers of a warming planet and who later won the Nobel Peace Prize for his activism on the subject - will have the incoming president's ear.

"Throughout the campaign, the president-elect and our founder discussed climate change as a key issue, and the conversation continued today," said Cathy Zoi, chief executive of the Alliance for Climate Protection in Palo Alto, which seeks to persuade Americans of the urgent need to slow the use of fossil fuels.

"They each reaffirmed their commitment to solving the climate crisis as a top priority," she added.

The 45-minute session in Chicago, which Vice President-elect Joe Biden also attended, underscored the incoming administration's focus on the environment and clean energy and on their potential to shore up the faltering economy.

"We have the opportunity now to create jobs all across this country in all 50 states to repower America," Obama said at a news conference after the meeting. "To redesign how we use energy and think about how we are increasing efficiency to make our economy stronger, make us more safe, reduce our dependence on foreign oil."

That's pretty impressive that they could average the temperature of the whole earth back in 1880.

Yeah, it is really remarkable. They point an infrared thermometer at a black hole. The infrared beam travels back in time, strikes the earth, and is measured by a sensor when it returns.

So? I see stranger things on TV all the time.

As if the Earth has been cooling down since the 1880's.

    Global Warming Last Gasp!

This is in NewswMax so it must be true.

    http://www.newsmax.com/brennan/globa...16/162489.html

NewsBusters' associate editor, Noel Sheppard, rounded up comments by top climate experts disproving Borenstein's claims.

"How can this guy call himself a ‘science reporter?’” asked David Deming of the University of Oklahoma. "He is perhaps the worst propagandist in all the media, and that's stating something. In his latest screed, he screams: 'global warming is accelerating.'

“How then does he explain the fact that the mean global temperature [as measured by satellite] is the same as it was in 1980? How can global warming be 'accelerating' when the last two years have seen dramatic cooling? Is this guy totally removed from all reality? He completely ignores any evidence contrary to his personal beliefs, and twists everything to meet his preconceived notions."

Richard S. Courtney, a U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) expert reviewer and a U.K.-based climate and atmospheric science consultant snorted, "Rubbish! Global warming is not 'accelerating.' Global warming has stopped. There has been no statistically significant rise in [mean global temperature or MGT] since 1995 and MGT has fallen since 1998 . . .

"Arctic ice advances and recedes over decades. 2007 saw a minimum in Arctic ice cover in the short period that it has been monitored using satellites. But 2008 saw the most rapid growth in Arctic ice cover in that same period and Arctic ice cover is now back to the average it has had in the period.

“Also, 95 percent of polar ice is in the Antarctic, and Antarctic ice is increasing. Nobody can know if the recent halt to global warming is temporary, permanent, or the start of a new warming or cooling phase. But it is certain that anybody who proclaims that 'Global warming is accelerating' is a liar, a fool, or both."

James A. Peden, atmospheric physicist formerly of the Space Research and Coordination Center in Pittsburgh, wrote, "The Great Global Warming Hoax appears to be a collaborative effort between the world’s incompetent scientists and the world’s scientifically illiterate journalists.

“Science Illiterates like Borenstein are the Chicken Littles of the 21st Century, spreading climate change poppycock like bread crumbs in the forest. The crumbs, hopefully, will lead them to a paycheck at the end of the week from their similarly science-illiterate employers. Well, the lower-I.Q. portion of the population has to eat, too."

This is it folks, global warming is slipping fast. It's down to 2 mins, the planet is behind by 2 TDs. What shall we do?????

I know, convene a meeting in about 50 years to discuss the final days of the Earth. Ah, remember to bring a jacket, it'll be cold.
