"Most of" the Western Athletic Conference coaches said they favor a WAC "challenge with another mid-major conference" in an article today (1-20) by Chris Murray in the Reno Gazette-Journal.
The idea is getting home games with "better quality opponents," similar to those set up between the ACC and Big Ten and the Pac-10 and Big 12."
WAC commissioner Karl Benson "sounded a little less warm to the idea," saying that he has discussed this "with both the MWC and MVC" but went on to say "he would like to build scheduling alliances with conferences like the WCC, Big West, Big Sky and Pac-10" with regular competition but not "bound to play each other."
