Houston has a pretty good team, very athletic guards and team speed. Shoot 3s as well covered or uncovered, drove lanes to create shots, etc. Inside game a little below avg. Very rough physical game...thought it was tackle football and rugby at times. I have seen some homer calls, but this was brutal. We made some turnovers, but several of them were player being mauled with no call. The Maurice Coleman was a show in himself...real deal. Houston has that type referring at home, they will have success in CUSA...not win it, but possibly top 4.

From early in the season we have fewer and shorter duration of what I would call out of control street ball. Had couple minutes first half, but also had guys bobbling passes before they settled in. I thought we did very well not getting intimidated by the physical mauling at times with no calls. Between 1 minute and 2 minutes to go in game we almost gave it away....Guyton really stunk then. I thought we would not have enough left at end as we really have no bench to speak of. Worried when we have to play on Saturdays and Mondays this year and back to back in conference tournament. I wish so bad that Brandon Gibson had not gotten injured before season and was able to comee off bench and play some. Need Jackson, B. Gibson and another PG off the bench to give some guys a few minutes at times. Total different game and speed for few we tried off the bench. We did good job penetrating and using big guys inside.

Sounds like that ref crew gave us a good practice run for what to expect when we fly to Reno in a few weeks. :icon_wink:

    Houston's Game Quotes
    http://www.uhcougars.com/sports/m-ba...122909aab.html

    Head Coach Tom Penders
    On rebounding
"When you go small, that's going to happen. We've won about seven games without outrebounding the opposition so that hasn't changed. I don't get any thrill out of losing if we outrebounded the other team. Rebounds are one stat, but there's lots of other ways to break down a game, like possessions and such. Rebounding is dependent on your philosophy - it can be really important or not. I'm more interested in fundamentals and getting more shot opportunities than our opponents. I'm not saying I don't want to rebound, but when you go small it becomes much more pronounced. There are a lot of coaches in the country who will say it's the least important stat. I'm more interested in the hustle stats and having more shot opportunities. "

I just got a 'tweet' from the Chronicle guy that said that Penders job is on the line after a 7-4 start following tonight's loss to the Dawgs!

great Tech crowd there -- i'd say between 100 and 150 (some were spread around but most in the two sections behind the Tech bench). total attendance was probably 1000-1500. hard for me to judge because i don't know the capacity of the venue, but it was pretty sparse. at any rate, easily 10% blue. and the Dawg fans were much louder. with the exception with the one time they tied us late in the game, the houston fans were only loud during our free throws and when they wanted the t-shirt guy to throw them something.

That happens sometimes when you play that fast. For a while tonight, I thought were playing Loyola Marymount and the late Hank Gathers.

Doesn't rebounding give you more shot opportunities?

Supposedly it is 8500. I thought that seemed like a stretch, but of course, they had 4 or 5 sections tarped off right behind each basket.

We just got back to Shreveport and before I crash, I would like to thank b00mer and dogtorevil for helping us out and using extra tickets! Also would like to thank the Houston alum for a great showing! I saw young and old who came together and will hopefully be more excited than ever for this team!

+100 a green dot for everyone there tonight from Houston, lake Charles, Shreveport, Ruston, or anywhere else! Proud to be a bulldog!

    Crash.

    Re: 12/29 HOUSTON game

    From the team:
    They loved all the support
Our crowd has been great on the road
Some of the players have said better then at home
The crowd has really been into it

Folks, let's take this as a challenge. Our alumni and fellow fans making it to the away games are outdoing us in Ruston. That is sad. Get to the TAC and see your Dawgs play.

I had a great time and was loud and met Jaguars from the Bahamas who drove in from Ft. Lauderdale and drove back after the game (and is still driving).

The "GO DAWGS!" sign was made by baw011 and was being held by none other than this big fella.
    Couple of observations:
Older tech fans follow the simple "defense" chant very well, "let's go bulldogs", and "how 'bout them dawgs". We should take note in the TAC and use these, A LOT!
Also, contrary to popular belief there is never a bad time for "how 'bout them dawgs" (unless losing or just doing something boneheaded).

Yeah, they rank right up there with some of the worst crews I've seen in a long time. Good thing we have talent to overcome it.

Btw, it didn't hurt to go 22 of 27 from the charity stripe either.
