Conroy's a good man and good for him!
Dwayne is 100% correct, and Conroy didn't leave on his own. Dooley did alot of good things but he was MAJOR ASSHOLE. Never could stand him.
Good luck, Conroy.

Best of luck to Conroy. I won't lie and say that I liked him on the sidelines, but I did like him off the sidelines helping our student athletes. Great contribuition and very loyal to Tech. I wish him the best!
Coach Hines went way out of his way to get a Josh Muse wall size photo autographed for my 8 year old son at the time. It was after the Bossier get together at the civic center and he saw me carrying it out with my son and asked which player I had. I make the comment it would be nice if I could have it autographed. Long story short. We trade cell numbers and I meet him at the field house one day while Josh was up there working out and get his autograph for my son. Coach Hines did not have to do this but he DID and that told me alot about what a good person he is. And by the way my son loved the photo even more. Good luck Coach Hines.
Good luck Coach Hines. It sounds like he landed on his feet, which (regardless of our harsh thoughts at times on the playcalling) is what we all want for guys like Conroy that have gone above and beyond in their loyalty to Tech.
I tell you one thing. IMO Conroy was a better play caller than Frank Scelfo ever was. I wish him all the best and as far as I am concerned NT is getting a good man and a good coach. Just gives me another reason to support NT over that dinky SBC school down the road. Good luck, Conroy and thank you.
I don't really understand this move by Conroy, especially if he's moving his family. His wife has a great job at Tech and North Texas could be looking for a new head coach if they don't get it turned around this season. This could be a one year job.
Don,
Not sure but it is reasonable to assume that his wife could teach at UNT as well. Coaching is a small profession a couple of calls and UNT would be aware of what a good team Conroy and his wife make in regards to helping players stay on the field.

Then it seems odd to bring it up in this thread, imo.
That is a great story. Those are the best kinds of things to go on walls and the best kinds of autographs, the ones that have stories.
I wish Coach Hines the best. I didn't know him personally, but he is part of the TECH family and I hope he has great success at UNT, at his next head coaching job, and then at the BCS school of his choice or where ever God's plan for him is.
This is very ironic. A few years ago I tried to get Conroy Hines to sign a WR from McKinney named Johnny Quinn. Conroy wouldn't do it. He said Quinn would never make it in Div 1A college football. So Quinn went to UNT instead of LA Tech, and became UNT's ALL-TIME leading receiver. I kid you not. During Quin's stay at UNT, he was playing in back to back bowl games for UNT while Conroy was sitting at home in Ruston.
Despite this, I've always liked Conroy Hines. Still do. But some of these college coaches don't know near as much about recruiting as they THINK they do. By the way, that INCLUDES some members of our (Dykes') current football staff. I'm already having similar experiences with them. As usual, they think nobody knows anything about football but them. Only problem is, I have to wait a couple of years to prove them wrong. Again.
Best of luck to Conroy and his family.
