This is the first I have heard about this part of the bill. How do they automatically enroll you? I certainly want no part of this. I guess when you don't get time to read it, people don't know things like this are there. Has anyone heard anything about this? Are they setting up a long-term care "agency" or program or will this be run through medicare?

They've kept this quiet for sure. At first glance, it appears the government is attacking another segment of the insurance industry with this by trying to get in the LTC insurance business. We know it's not fair to exclude folks for pre-exsisting conditions so folks should wait until they need it to buy it. They should fine people who wait to do that.:icon_wink:

It is estimated that the need for long term care will be at its highest in the next few years and continuing due to baby boomers. Assuming the program actually worked it would save billions in medicaid costs. We all know it won't work wth the govt. running it.

-- The deduction will work on a sliding scale based on age. Younger workers will be charged less, older workers more. The Congressional Budget Office pegged the average monthly deduction at $146. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services put it higher, at $240.
-- After a five-year vesting period, enrollees who need help bathing, eating or dressing will be eligible to take out benefits, estimated to be around $75 a day for in-home care.
"Seventy-five dollars a day in flex cash will be enough for most people who are at home to stay at home, which is where they want to be," Firman said. "We are convinced a cash benefit is the best way for consumer to get what they want."


Too bad that I'm too old to sign up for this. Probably I'll end up having to pay some 16 year old filipana to take care of me in some sleepy coastal barrio.

The others... those who saunter around the hood with their pants around their knees, or toting a wine bottle would call Obamacare a new exciting income stream....that they don't have to lift a finger for.

In CENLA the average fee for in-home assistance from the typical provider is $18/hour. If you have an elderly relative that needs a "sitter" that's about what you'll pay. I don't see how $75/day is gonna get it done. That's just over 4 hrs of care.

Oh! I forgot! the feds will put such private providers out of business, then mandate workers to accept min wage to provide services. Silly me...

I'm interested in how the people are going to be "enrolled" - will it be voluntary? I would never want to be in this garbage. $75 a day would get you nothing. This is going to a money drain, mismanaged program just like the rest.

Tyler, get real. The repubs are clueless. They had their chance and they blew it. How in the blazes did an inexperienced black politician get elected President? Because the electorate concluded that he was a far better choice than the clueless repub choice.

You can complain about "socialism" all day long but most people aren't buying that label. They are buying results.

The repub dog and pony show is very, very old and most voters know better than to trust repubs to do anything except protect their special interests and the super-rich.

Most of these day care workers only visit for an hour or so. If you need 24/7 care, the nursing home is needed.

Medicaid pays a large percentage of nursing home care now. I'd like to hear/read more about this plan, but $75/day isn't far off the amount nursing homes receive from medicaid for full time residents.

Qualifiying insureds can get much more than $75/day benefit for $240/mo w/a private plan.
