Not daytime running lights, I mean the ones that are mounted low like the fog lights, fog lights are yellow and running lights are white. They are illegal to run when in traffic. Daytime running lights are just your headlights.

Just messing with ya. I wouldn't harm a flea.

Of course, when a motorcycle punk dies in a firey crash lot of fleas perish too!

    Re: peeve of the day

Seriously, though. I know what cyclist claim....they have to be heard. Yet, even with loud pipes what do motorists say after they have run over one: "I didn't see them." You don't fix a vision problem with sound. Therefore, I propose a law that mandates cyclists:

    1) wear loud colors (no more black leather, has to be orange or bright pink)
    2) that they mount an orange penant on their bikes that stands a good 6' up. (like kids put on their bikes)

But, the worst violaters of common decency are those punks that alter the pipes on trucks. No excuse for them.

I was at a local mechanic, picking up our van that had had a brake job, when some punk in a pick-em-up truck pulls in, it was so loud that everyone had to stop conversing until that jerkweed shut the engine off. So, pretending I was interested, I approached the young punk and asked, "How I can make my truck obnoxiously loud too?"

I thought my use of the term "obnoxiously" might be missed by him, but it wasn't. He explained I'd have to get a "glass pack" , remove a section of the pipe and insert the pack, and it'll make noise. but! he added, to make it "obnoxiously" loud I would need to soak it in water to make it rust, and it's the rust that triples the sound.

"Well, won't that loud noise disturb my neighbors?"

"Hrrrumph! (with a shocked look on his face), Yeah, but why should you care?"

    There ya go.

I agree that wearing safety yellow, orange, or even pink would make us more visible, but it's hard to pick up chicks dressed like that.

And to the obnoxiously loud trucks, what a lot of those guys don't realize when you open up your exhaust that much it doesn't help the speed any, it actually makes them slower. With a motorcycle, you can open them up so much that it makes them slower, but generally not. But, I do like my loud bike, even though it isn't the loudest around.

I kind of like the idea that a fellow biker came up with for making sure we are seen...

Make it public knowledge that every bike in America has 50 pounds of explosives on board, that way you know.....If you hit a biker, you will die, too.

People will begin to watch the road in the same way that bikers do.

I have thought about a set of Gatling guns mounted on the handle bars too, for those that are not considerate of riders.

And it's REALLY hard to pick up chicks if you're dead as well. Since when did safety become an afterthought?? Several of the military guys wear those, and I would sure consider those guys REAL MEN. :icon_wink: I'm just sayin...

I'm sure that we all have those neighbors with the volume. I've got 1 neighbor that has it on his truck. He's pretty cool about it and rolls slow up to the house, so that it's pretty much at idle when he hits the driveway. Especially when it's getting later in the night or when he's up really early going hunting or fishing. It's just called being considerate.

2 doors down from him is a showoff (middle age guy) and decides to fly down the street about 50-60 mph at about 120 decibles. It use to be a couple nights a week anywhere from 9p to midnight. (oh and the 3am wake up call that he gave us when he and his wife were fighting.) That's what you call an inconsiderate jackass.

If you're like example #1, then good for you. I'm glad that you have some respect. If you're like example #2, then your neighbors prolly think that you're a jackass too. :icon_wink: I hope that you're like #1.

so you don't feel the need to be considerate of your neighbors, but everyone else should be considerate of you?

I live in a sparsely populated area, so it's not as big of an issue, but I would say I am more like #1. Respect, Respect, Respect.

What gets me about motorcycle "enthusiasts" is how they are quick to complain about car drivers and the fact they aren't considerate of bikers meanwhile you have these enthusiasts hauling ass down the road weaving in and out of traffic and pulling into spaces a mouse can barely fit in or when there's stand still traffic they'll just pull in between the lanes (and cars) and cruise on up the road like the dotted line is also a motorcycle lane. Fortunately, sometimes I'm able to catch 'em coming in my rearview mirror and block the lane. I always find it amusing how those who are most disrespectful of others or the first to cry the loudest when they feel they've been disrespected.
