Written communication, published documents, memos, etc. that has a series of 3 or more items in a sentence and then doesn't use the comma before "and";As in "Red, White, and Blue"...
Somehow this is now an "optional" comma...I still don't like it.

We don't have a "so" participle in Mandarin, so yeah, English.

Was in a meeting this morning with two participants using "so" liberally to punctuate their sentences.

While it is annoying, I take some pleasure in treating the "so" as a Mad Libs-style blank for me to fill in.

i don't like it, either. i especially hate it when that comma is left out of a list of multiples, such as:
"your options are hot dogs and mustard, pound cake and strawberries, ice cream, and sushi."

leave off that last comma and it can be somewhat confusing (i know it's an odd list, but i just thought it up as i typed, so give me a break :icon_wink: ).

Do you only attend to the laws of physics, say inertia or gravity, when you are in a Physics Lab? :icon_wink:

    Nice one!

Different subject, but the latest peeve is being asked to forgive overdraft charges over and over and over. If you can't show me your checkbook register and you can't keep up with what you spend through online banking, I don't have time for you.

Are physical laws like inertia and gravity arbitrary, exception ridden, and often illogical?

Yes. Moreover, I disagree with them.

Hmmm. I feel I could argue my case(s) with the editors of the AP style manual or of Webster's. And I certainly feel justified complaining about "conventional usage" as the arbiter of what is considered "law" for our dumb language.

I think you might have a somewhat more difficult experience if you ever decide to debate the particulars of our physical laws with their Framer.

Of course, where I sit the only important difference is that I actually understand grammar. But an important similarity between both is that the more you know about the subject, the more abiguity and variability you discover.

Another important difference is who wrote the rules. Pretty important difference.
