Did anyone else notice Roshell is visiting Cincy today?
If he's still committed this time tomorrow, great job Coach Rupp.
i'm really interested in this kid --

small but thick combo guard from waxahachie, texas, who is built like a running back because he is a running back. had originally committed to baylor as a freshman, signed with utep but was released earlier this month.
rivals shows that we've offered. i can't find any more information, other than the utep release saying that he's actually interested in playing college football too. should be interesting to follow at least.

I just dont understand, why as fans, we are "giddy" over the fact that we signed a ANOTHER JUCO. I do welcome the newest member of the Bulldog family with open arms, I am as excited as anyone, that we have one more member of "The Tech Family". My point is the big picture and Rupps inability to recruit a single HS guy. Just one! I didnt say he had to sign 8 this year. Just one! He has OPENLY admitted that he prefers to go the JUCO route and this has proven to NOT be the way to build a program, as many thought Rupp would do here.

Boxerdog made this comment in a previous thread:
All these people posting and crying about a lack of high school recruits really don't understand and don't look at the total picture. Rupp has recruited and signed high school athletes, some made it here and some didn't qualify. At the end of the day, Rupp is not taking classes for these recruits or faking SAT scores like Calipari did at Memphis with Derrick Rose. The core of next year's team (Olu, Brandon and Darius) were high school recruits. So comment about Rupp not trying to recruit high school players is mute. One high school player that Rupp signed and didn't qualify who went to Juco recently just signed with Kansas State and will probably be the starting point guard on a Top 15 team next year- See Juevol Myles hereSigning good high school players is more difficult than typing on a keyboard. (It might even demand an increased investment in the program over several years.)

Back to Boxer's quote, if you recruit high school players, you need them to be good enough to contribute as freshmen, even if they are ready to contribute, they will still go through a learning curve and those are the good ones. If you recruit ones that are not good enough or aren't patient to wait their turn, they will transfer. This can be attributed to being the star in high school and then sitting the bench and not playing as much in college. Recruiting high school players at a mid major is hard, even harder at a school in a location like Ruston, that averages less than 2000 for attendance and facilities that need a facelift. The good high school players want to go Big 12 and SEC in the south, even if they don't play immediately, they can still take comfort in the prestige of being in the Big 12 or SEC and probably playing behind a NBA caliber player. Rupp has gone after high school players, the good ones, but he's hasn't gotten the ones you guys want, but he's got some that have some potential. But Rupp can't consistently get the ones that can help La Tech right away, not until there's more of a committment made to athletics and basketball can Rupp go out and pick and choose the high school recruits he wants. There's a difference between recruiting high school players and recruiting WAC impact type high school players. But if Rupp recruits high school players that are not good enough, you same posters that are crying for high school recruits will be the one calling for his head. Maybe Rupp should get all the locals high school players on teams like LSU, ULL, Northwestern St, Tulane, etc, how did that work out for those teams this past year?

That is Da Scoop!! Bottom line, we do have a couple of first year players who will come in next year. As opposed to many highschoolers, junior college players have logged alot of minutes against good competition and can contribute immediately. I haven't forgotten how Guyton almost single-handedly beat ULL in his first collegiate game for us.
Lost in all this belly-aching is the fact that Roshell is a bigger sign than the kid we lost to ULL. You put that kind of girth out there with Olu, good pg, our athletic 2's & 3's (plus another post soon to be revealed)--you've got the make-up of a very dangerous team next year.
If Olu makes the jump this offseason he did last--he's a legit WAC POY contender his junior year.
By reading this board over time, one learns who to trust about what is going on in a particular sport. Boxer is one of those I trust in basketball.
For that reason, I am taking comfort in the quoted statement. I may not be as optimistic as Cham110 and Skill, but I love my university, and refuse to join in the bellyaching about a season that hasn't even happened yet.

Roshell is exactly what we were looking for in a center. A shot blocker and rebounder. Somebody to fill in space. Somebody to give Rahman/Greg Smtih trouble. We are also looking for another post player that might give up an inch or 2 in size but is a better scoring threat.
But it is pretty obvious that this team is going to another high flying attack the rim offense. You see that in Olu, Brandon, and Darrius. Even DeAndre loves to attack the rim. We are probably going to see get more athletic high school kids that can do the same thing. We will also probably see a few guys come in that can shoot well enough to make teams respect that. Not to mention there is no telling how much better Darrius and Brandon will get at knocking down open shots.
