but the pros and cons of playing NLU will grace the pages of TNS very soon! Since we haven't kick this mule lately, what say you? Yea? Nay? What were the question, again?

I just think we should play them twice, once here and once there, just to shut them up for a few more years. I'm so tired of hearing them whine about it.
We have stopped playing 1AA games unless it is a money game in Ruston....with no return trip
I'm a Junior, and would LOVE to see ULM at Tech or in the Indy bowl almost as much as have LSU come up to Ruston
I don't hear any smack from friends of mine at ULM, but I think it's important to assert our authority, remind them who's best.
Edit: as our tuner (i.e. replace Grambling)
Sure, but only one game, in Ruston, and no return trip. The same as other schools of their caliber (Nichols, SELU, etc...).
That doesn't surprise me. They do the same thing every year about this time. A couple of years ago, Dooley made his "elite" comment when they started this BS. Dooley was right to say that we shouldn't play them, but it became a small PR problem in Monroe for a couple of weeks.
I grew up watching Tech / NLU games, and I was genuinely excited when we "renewed the rivalry" in '97. The attendance at the '97 game (in Ruston) was decent, but it fell sharply after that. There was talk that NLU people (maybe they were ULM by then, I honestly can't remember) were going to boycott the '97 and '99 games because attending a game in Ruston would make money for La. Tech. The problem was that the crowds were actually smaller in Monroe than in Ruston. The last game in I remember was 2000 (I think), and the game was in Monroe. By the end of the game there could not have been 250 fans on the NLU side. Seriously, you could have counted them. Tech fans outnumbered them by far, and the game was a blowout.
Long story short, the rivalry is officially dead. The students were not excited about it in the late 90s when we had a four game series, and their fans just didn't show up. I don't think the current students would care either. Plus, we no longer have Jim Oakes as AD. He was more apt to give in to pressure from newspapers and word of mouth. Bruce Van de Velde has experience as an AD and comes from bigger programs. He has his own vision of where we need to go, and I doubt that his opinion will be changed by an article in the News Star.
NO MORE GAMES WITH THE THUNDERCHICKENS. BIG WASTE OF TIME AND RESOURCES.
That's exactly what I said in '97. I thought we could pick up right where we left off, but it didn't work that way.
The rivalry can only exist as a true rivalry if people are excited about it, and no one is. You don't see students talking trash to each other about playing, and you don't see fans talking about it except for the week or two each year when the News Star starts this goofy little campaign.
This would be just another game on the schedule.
It does nothing for TECH and therefore should not be played unless they want to come to the Joe for a payday.

Honestly, I think we would get better opposing fan attendance playing Grambling.
Therefore, I vote for Grambling.
Second choice is McNeese. Both are a more enjoyable experience and have better fans, plus Grambling has the band, and McNeese actually wins football games.
This again?
Tech should only schedule jucos for body bag games in Ruston or if it's financially lucrative (ie sell out Indy Stadium).
Playing the juco would not sell out in Ruston, much less Shreveport.
The juco demands Tech to play a return game in Monroe. LOL!!!
Why would we give the juco our money by filling up their stadium when we can play any FCS team in Ruston without a return game?
It would simply be financially irresponsible for Tech to play the juco in Monroe.
The NCAA allows each team a free FCS home win every year. Why not take advantage of it every year?
Mississippi State, Houston, Southern Miss, Navy, Army, etc excite me and every other college football fan more than playing the juco.
End of argument and on to more important things.
Are we bringing the cannon back this year?
You get crabs sitting in their bleachers. Malone stadium is very dirty.
God, not again..........
It is helping us tremendously by NOT playing them. We have the upper hand and people know that. We are in the drivers seat. You don't throw that away. Everyone knows we would whip the lowest ranked team in the U.S. We don't have anything to prove. Let them complain. It just adds to them looking pathetic chasing us.
Absolutely correct!!!!
Why in the world would we want to play them when we are getting series with schools like USM, Houstion, Navy, and Army? As far as I am concerned, I hope we have played our last game ever with them. Playing them does nothing for us and only gives them credibilty in Northern Louisiana.
