Ok. I'm impressed with his highlight film. Great passing and I liked his wheels. May not beat out the two seniors, but it's going to be interesting the next few years with him, Cameron, Raulston, and Burch.

Do you remember a few years ago when Boise State would come into JAS & beat our brains out with WHITE running backs? Well, this guy we have got from California named Ray Holley has just AMAZED everyone the first couple of weeks in the summer workouts--quick, tough, strong as a bull, & will do anything, ANYTHING, to please Damon & his teammates. First time in a long time the entire coaching staff is impressed by a white RB. Please know the only reason I distinguish his skin color is because of the RARITY of a caucasian RB on almost any level of organized football. From what I have heard & SEEN, this guy will bring a whole lot of excitement to our football team whether running, catching, or playing special teams. I literally cannot wait until all of you get a chance to see Ray Holley!!

Not sure if that has all been resolved or not, but Mills definitely has the skills to be our starting LT, and I think McGill is a natural RT (and a damn good one, at that).

Hopefully this 'situation', whatever it is, will work itself out by the time the season starts.
If we were to play on Saturday, McGill would start at LT, Saia at LG, Roberts at C, Warner at RG, & Harmon at RT. Like many of you, I think that Jordan Mills will work his way back into the starting lineup with Cavitt, Miles, & Matt Sheppard ready to go in the event of injury or poor performance by a starter.

Looks like he can put the ball where it needs to be while getting drilled at the same time. Looks good.

Holley continues to run over skeptics following Coast career
    Thursday, June 10, 2010

For recently graduated Orange Coast College football standout Ray Holley, that catchy phrase has been a way of life as the 5-foot-9, 195-pound running back will take his athletic and academic talents to Louisiana Tech University.

"Throughout my life, I've tried to not let anything discourage me from what I want to accomplish, in football or in life," Holley said. "At Louisiana Tech, there are seven other running backs at practice and they each have specific talents that they bring to the table. Some are bigger, some are faster, some are stronger -- but I hope to prove to the coaches that I have a little bit of everything and that I deserve the opportunity."

Coach that's great to hear and confirms what I suspected! From early thread he'll look great as a gunner on special teams. Thanks for the update:icon_wink:

Re: Too early for a 2-deep?

Ray Holley: After looking at both his High School and JC highlight videos along with looking at the numbers he has put up over his HS & JC carreers, I am very impressed with not only the talent level he possess, but also how determined and tough this kid is on the football field. He has good speed (great acceleration when he hits his hole and turns the corner), great vision, good moves (spins & jukes), great balance, and incredible power for a back his size(reminds me of Daniel Porter in that respect). On his films, he never went down after the first for even second hit. He has a great stiff arm and also seems to have a good catching skills.

I would not be surprised to see him get some PT as running back and he definitely will be valuable on special teams. I am excited to see him on the field along with all the other talent we will have this year.

I am going to go ahead and open up a can of worms, but I have seen this happen since I played HS football back in the earlly 90's. According to all the articles I have read on the kid, he has not had any other D-1 offers, much less much attention thrown his way. I believe that this can be attributed to reverse discrimination when it comes to white athletes at the skill positions. Sure white boys can play on the lines or QB, or maybe even a "possession" receiver every once in a while, but RB come on. This thinking is a stereotype that has been perpetuated for many years by white coaches. It is amazing to me that talent, drive, and discipline like this can be ignored by most coaches. However, it looks like our coaches have brains and can recognize talent no matter the skin color and for that I am very thankful.

Me too! I think we have a real sleeper here. I love what I have read about his attitude, seems like a leader to me. Not sure how much time he gets at RB, but I think he helps the team out in a lot of other areas.

    Coach,

I know for a fact that we had coaches (I will not name names) who absolutely looked the other way, if anyone would bring up a caucasian running back. HD can tell a 'horror' story and I know one personally who wanted to come to Tech, but we blew the recruitment because we were not that interested (I know his family very, very well). He went to BR instead and starred! He actually later played in the NFL!

Not being racist here but it can cut both ways........ glad we are finally 'colored blind'!

Holley has great balance but he is right when he says we have some backs that are stronger and some backs that are faster. We have a lot of good backs on our roster. I hope he sticks with it and works hard. It'll pay off.

Agreed. Looks like the RB competition just got that much better, which btw should be quite interesting considering TF and SD's style of offense.

There will be a lot more "Move the Chains" cheer this year.
