One a good note, I think out fair catch team did a great job. No fumbles which is just what our ST coach wants.
That was Teddy Veal. I thought it was a heckuva fine play. He caught it instead of allowing it to hit and bounce another 20 yards. Yeah, in hindsight, and I think even Veal wishes now he'd kept his feet, not fair-catched it...he probably would have scored, or at least returned deep into their territory. But, overall, it was a great play by Veal. Some fans have been complaining LOUDLY about allowing punts to roll and roll and roll.... Baby steps. He caught that one and it was not an easy play the way that punt was diving to the ground.
Duh, their defensive line was in our backfield, before J'Mar had the ball in his hands, all night except our first drive. Very seldom did he have time to set for a pass. Compare to LSU game. Our "O" line has some explaining to do, big time. Their passer was horrible. First 8 passes incomplete and badly thrown to begin with. Our defense has had trouble with the run all season. Pretty of blame to go around.
Yep! as I posted, have to give credit to UAB's defense, especially that Front 7. They played a LOT better than LSU's defense did. Maybe it was motivation. UAB came in with a major chip on its shoulder...and we pansied it like Holtz's teams always seem to do...and LSU was not all that interested in killing us. But! regardless of the reasons, UAB's defense was a LOT tougher and they took it to us.
But! that's where coaching steps up....or not. I blame the coaches. Yeah...18-22 yr olds are adults (technically) and are also responsible for themselves. They should be able to motivate themselves. But it's up to the coaching staff to properly prepare (X's and O's) and to also motivate a team to play.
From my seats, our oLine got whooped man on man. Unexpected because pass blocking had been good even with run blocking been poor. Hope we get both of those fixed.
I have not heard or read a comment on the crowd size. Almost 19K announced. For those who need visual assistance, that's almost 75% capacity. Actual might have been 50%, but that's doubtful. In addition to the most offensive offense I've ever seen, it was the worst pre-game atmosphere I've ever seen for such a HUGE game.
Our AD is totally inept.
crowd size doesnt matter
