The "elite" talk is just a sideshow. The reality is that DD is working to build our program the right way, by playing teams in football that enhance our football program. Returnable games with nlulm do not build our football program. Playing in Monroe gives us no recruiting advantage. When you look at DD's scheduling philosophy, they just don't fit in. They are too close to help us build our regional recruiting base, and too far to give us the benefits of a home game. I don't think DD is refusing to schedule them out of spite; they are simply irrelevant. If they were farther away or an FCS program, it would be different.
Now in other sports, there is no reason not to play them. But the football season is just too short to return games just up the street. Now, if DD wants to start opening up that 13th slot each season, that is a different story. But right now, they just don't fit in.
Run and bravado don't pay the bills. Playing them in Monroe is the best thing we could do for their athletic department.
I'm not deadset against playing them, but they need us far more than we need them, and that affords us the luxury of setting the terms. 2 for 1 w/ the first game in Ruston.
I could live with that
dont know if they would go for it
Just want to ask again, why would UNO drop all the way to DIII? Why not FCS or DII?
How is the Sun Belt going to fill their spot? No football program, but they play in the belt in everything else, right?
It won't hurt basketball. Sunbelt has been hoping to get rid of Denver for some time to even out the basketball side of things so this actually helps. Football obviously won't be affected, not sure about baseball.
Elite isn't an excuse.
The Elite comment gave them something to complain about and they already have plenty of that. I am not even sure what RUN and BRAVDO are. BRAVADO?
Nobody is dodging them. Beating them senseless and filling there stands does nothing but help them. When they start fielding a football team that a casual observer thinks could hang with us then we should play them once in a while. Until then ignore them.
They are actually having a good year this year. The ULL-ULM game looks like it could be for a bowl game this year. If they go out and win a bowl game then we should sit up and take notice and play them. If they don't let them continue to complaign and wine about it.
UNO's Division III move is official.
