Please don't go there because they give visiting teams discounts but NOT for individuals! Yeah the Marriot Courtyard still owes me money for cancelled rooms for my daughter's wedding and a game that we could not make...and the cancellations were made 2-weeks before the event! Moreover, the Ruston Hampton Inn's franchise owner must think his property is an Embassy Suites because even Hilton cooperate can't understand why their prices are so high!
You're staring to sound like a damn recording! Yes I understand what your saying but if we can convince a G5 to do a home and home in a venue whereby both parties can make some money in ticket attendance, Shreveport could be that venue. Ruston just does not have the logistics to do it!
Tech AD Eric Wood should start working on those kind of games right now:
- Sonny Dykes moving to TCU should make it much easier for Tech to schedule a home and home with the Horned Frogs.
- Sonny Cumbie is so popular in Lubbock we just night be able to get a home and home with TX Tech too.
- Eric Wood came to Tech from new Big XII member UCF. Hey, how about a home/home Eric?
- Tech officials used to have a lot of connections at the University of Houston. Let's start playing 'em again.
Prioritizing road games in the state of Texas at Baylor, SMU, TCU, TX Tech and Houston should prove very valuable to LA Tech's recruiting in Texas. With only 8 conference mates (9 total members) in the new CUSA 4.0, we should have room to work some of these teams into our schedule.
I am not totally disagreeing with you, but I don't really get the "logistics" issue. Monroe and Shreveport both have conference hotels and are a quicker drive to Ruston than across town in Dallas, Houston, or any major city. The airport in Shreveport is fine and the ride to Ruston is much much easier (and faster) than going anywhere in a major city.
I agree that the above teams might be workable.
We don't have a chance with ANY SEC (especially Arkansas) team other than Miss State an we've seen that fail two times already in Ruston.
As I was driving through the area the other day, I drove by BGA or whatever they call it now, and remembered about 20 years ago having a meeting there to discuss thoughts on games in Shreveport. Many here will remember that day.
Stadiums being filled isnt what got any of the other schools an invite.
You're correct. For the AAC, NONE of them are known to fill their stadiums. I think what is being suggested here is, what they had that we DON'T (being physically located in a major metro area) is beyond our control. BUT...We need to control what we can control...and that is fan SUPPORT ... both physically in the stands, and financially in terms of giving.
Taking a GOOD PRODUCT to where our alumni are located is a step in that direction. "Good Product" being more than just exciting football...it's making sure the little details are also on point. Tailgating being PROMOTED and ENCOURAGED, not running out of concessions, smooth ticketing process, all that stuff...

The other thing that might help, would be that with the Big 12 going back to actually having 12 teams maybe they return to 8 conference games, which would open an OOC game for each of them.
A 9 game schedule would probably work better for the new giant SEC to run pods of some sort, but those schools really like having 4 OOC games (with 3-4 being home games) every year. So there will likely be a fight between the coaches/schools and the SEC office/tv partners about sticking with 8 or not. I doubt they're any more likely to travel even if they stick with 8 (just to keep sounding like a recording) but it's a heck of a lot more likely if they're working with 4 OOC games than if they're only doing 3.
I think that within 24 to 26 months you will see the formal break away of the main 48-64 power schools to form their own alliance complete with playoffs and national championship - first it will be only football but with in a decade it will include basketball and baseball also -
This may even come with the understanding that they will only schedule each other
It's coming, it's not if but a matter of when

Talking about this thread's original topic. Is there anyway that we can stop this abomination from occupying the north endzone and preventing us from bowling it in?
