USM holds on to win 4-3.
The highly favorite, playing at home, on a roll, nationally ranked #1 seed struggles to nose out a win over the #8 seed....that's baseball!
On a sidenote, USM should not be allowed to blink the lights and blast loud music when they hit a HR or do something good. They just happen to be the host school, but this is the CUSA conference tourney, not a USM regular season home series. Conference, neutral officials should be in charge of ALL ASPECTS of the tourney, including the press box, special effects, scoreboard, etc...
As for the play on the field, I am rooting FOR Tech and not AGAINST any other school. I also want what is best for Tech, and by extension, CUSA. So, if that means a Tech vs. USM championship game gives us our best shot at an at-large bid...provided we don't beat the Mustard Buzzards for the autobid...then I am all for it.
So at least one USM fan says, "It's Tech's Fault." A ULM fan asked about the light show at USM last night, and here was their response:
In the past when we hosted it was always as a "neutral site" configuration, as it was at Rice and other on campus locations in the past. Last year in Ruston, LaTech treated it as a home tournament. They played their players' walkup music, did all the "make some noise" crowd-inducing stuff and had their normal regular season HR celebrations. It was the first time that happened in the CUSA tournament held on a campus. CUSA was asked to intervene after LaTech's first game and they said "there's nothing we can do". Our AD took note and this is basically a big old "up yours" to CUSA that we are doing it in our park because they let LaTech run it like a travel ball tournament last year.
I saw where the Sunbelt Tournament is going to single elimination. Anyone heard of that for CUSA?
Though so but I wouldn't be surprised.
I am out in the boondocks most of today, can someone post scores of the early games…thanks
