The mid-season Bear Bryant Coach of the Year watch list came out this past Tuesday. Twenty coaches on the list, five from outside the bigger conferences, including two from CUSA.
Bill Clark, UAB. Giant win yesterday.
Seth Littrell, North Texas. Probably coached himself off the list yesterday.
Josh Heupel, Central Florida. Still looking strong for a second, consecutive national championship.
Luke Fickell, Cincinnati. Having a very, nice season in the Queen City.
Charlie Strong, South Florida. Having another fine Top 20 season in Tampa. You think Bulls fans miss Skip?
I am a little shocked that Scott Satterfield (Appy State) wasn't on the list. If you can get a SunBelt team in the Top 25, that alone should at least get you in the conversation for coach-of-the-year.
I shudder to think about how close our beloved football coach was to making this list. A new theory. Maybe Skip intentionally loses big games because he really does love Ruston so much that he does not want to leave. He thinks that if he starts winning CUSA championships some bigger school will come and hire him away. Or maybe he just doesn't like the spotlight. Just a theory.
