We certainly can't question the decisions Saints management makes regarding personnel. They have a great track record.

I think Luke has career earnings of about $16 million. If this is the end of the road, well... He did really good.

Take Luke to camp and beats out Chase. Garrett is a bust.

Sure did. If Luke squeezed $16M out of the NFL despite playing very little football over a 13 season career, he's truly a blessed man.

    - Incredibly, Luke "played" 5 whole seasons in which he accumulated zero stats, including his last season with the Saints.

During his 13-season career, Luke only played in 62 games. This means he was paid approximately $260,000 per game appearance, and earned over $74,000 per pass completion for his 216 pass completions during his career. That's a phenomenal career by any measurement, especially when you consider he never sustained a real injury. The man was truly blessed.

BEST JOB IN THE WORLD = 3rd string QB for NFL team.

So when Skip becomes AD and Rattay becomes HC, will Luke join us as QBs?

And you have to think: With such light wear on the treads, maybe an NFL team needing a 1 year stopgap journeyman QB could make an overture for his services.

I wonder if the Saints shopped him around for a Trade.

What Luke should be doing is teaching a "Business" class: How to get rich without doing anything.

This may not be the newest CBA agreement, but a couple years ago a coworker retired from the NFL after being in the league 3-4 years. Basically he has a credit of about $500 a month in the pension. He can't draw on the pension until 55 but he said their is an annuity that they can start drawing on sometime in their 30's. Playing for 13 years that pension could be close to 100,000 year with the cost of living adjustments etc that the league adds in every so often.

So 16 million up front, plus pension/annuity, and the health care that current players receive as part of retirement he has done very well.

PERFECT career! he retires without body and mind being seriously rattled. apparently no concussions- no abused body-- a pension at 55 -medical benefits etc. a beautiful family . Find something he enjoys doing and generate income ... he is the exception to average professional athlete--
We may see him picked up by another team as backup and I see the Saints need to get a young qb and start planning for future. They sure as heck would lose a lifetime Saints fan if they pick up Kap or Manzel---

Keep in mind that Luke suffered a serious back injury in practice in 2015. There is widespread speculation in New Orleans that he has never fully recovered from it, and that's the reason the Saints went shopping for a backup QB. Luke may play elsewhere this year and the years to come, but if he has suffered this type of back injury it will impact him for the rest of his life.

Luke has made millions as a backup QB, but he did not get to the end of his career unscathed.
