Did you ever think that my response by quoting your last post was merely a way to direct my post to you? Why don't you answer the question instead of trying to start an argument? You are welcome to post here, but as you have no apparent relationship to La Tech don't you think you should be cordial to those of us that actually have a vested interest?

I'm reading this thread to try and figure out what you don't understand about the post I directed to you. But why does there need to be a plan for dealing with illegal immigration. It's called illegal for a reason. Shouldn't the plan be pretty simple? Don't let illegal immigrants in our country. That is a good plan, don't you think? What is your solution?

Amen, and the members of the Tea Party expect to pay their own way in everything- they just want everyone else to do the same. Neither of these can be said for any liberal. They want you to pay their way and want to tell you how to spend the money you worked for.

The Tea Party is nothing but a bunch of whining freeloaders that don't pay their own way. If they are a real party, I challenge them to quit "piggybacking" off of the GOP and fund their own candidates under the Tea Party name.

"The Tea Party" is simply the conservative branch of the GOP. They don't really want to destroy the party, but just have a conservative voice within that party. Kind of like the "Black Caucus" within the Democrat party.

Hope you're right, but the GOP has all the money/tradition. They all rally around each other to destroy the Tea Party candidates. And the media favors the Republicans as the lesser of two evils. It's tough!

And the beautiful thing is they make the GOP accountable- or they shock the crap out of them and get the favored candidate out if they aren't conservative enough.

The Constitution is a well reasoned document. I don't understand why so many folks disagree. Obama, Holder, et al, should set their egos aside and fulfill their obligation to abide by it. I don't see how any American could defend their actions. Of course, I don't understand how any American could have voted for Obama twice. I'm not very bright, but I don't understand why immigration policy is an issue.

Because the Constitution was/is a symbol of oppression to many. It doesn't go far enough to "right the wrongs" of the past nor making the current lot good enough. Etc.

Immigration policy is an issue because immigration is a necessity for the prosperity of the nation and her people. But the people who are in position and have power to do anything keep pushing into one of two camps: completely open or completely closed.

What is oppressive about the Constitution? It makes men free and puts us in control of the government. It tells the government what they are not allowed to do to us.

We have adequate immigration laws, it's the upholding of those laws that give us trouble. We view the legal immigrant and the illegal immigrant as equals and that gets us in trouble every 30 years or so when we have too many illegals and don't know what to do with them. We need a system that forces them to come legally. A fence? I don't know, but something!

How is the Constitution a symbol of oppression?

There are laws on the books that address immigration. The government should enforce them. If they feel it necessary to rewrite the laws, do so in a way that any person applying for citizenship has the ability to help our country by bringing skills we need. That would make sense. But the idea that America should allow people in the country to collect government money, to be educated at tax payer expense, or qualify for food stamps is absurd and certainly is not "for the prosperity of the nation and her people."

I'm not aware of anyone having a "completely closed" position on immigration policy. My understanding is that the Republican Party wants the borders secured first, and then will agree to an immigration overhaul. In the meantime, the current immigration policies would continue to be in force, allowing thousands of immigrants to come to America legally.

In my opinion, our immigration policy needs to favor skilled labor over family reunification. Any student who graduates from a 4-year university in the United States should be given the option to stay with a defined path to citizenship. While family reunification can still be given consideration, it should not be the priority.
