Sorry Historian, just saw your response.
I don't think so. If anything it's just made the arrogant P5ers more vocal. They never supported a UCF-type school before, and never will. And some fans are seizing this opportunity to lobby for an 8-team playoff, citing UCF as an example of the travesty of the current 4-team format. UCF is just a convenient tool to be used.
Pat Forde had an idea pitched to him (I don't like it as much as mine )

This would cut off a 12th regular season game for all G5 teams, which to most is $ game - now probably averaging $1 million.16 team playoff
"P5" conference all go to 14 (with ND joining ACC - 15) - Each "P5" conference is split into divisions. Division winners advance to playoff (10 teams).
"G5" conferences play 11 game schedule (main part I don't like) with conference championship on weekend after Thanksgiving. Champs advance to playoffs (5 teams).
1 at-large team advances of highest rated not above (would have been Bama this year).
Normal championship weekend would be 1st round of playoffs at highest seeds.
Quarterfinals the next weekend at highest seed.
Semifinals/Finals like current setup.
These schools can't afford to cut $1 million from their budget and I don't think the $ from CFP would be made up.

We really appreciate this writeup on CFT but we just need to clarify that we are NOT affiliated with the school. We are an alumni-owned store just blocks from campus. #rollwave#nationalchamps98
Guess you guys forgot about the worst NCAAF champions, ever.
The 1984 BYU Cougars won a WAC league that was far far worst than the AAC this year.
Out of conference was Pitt, Baylor, Tulsa and Utah State. Pathetic for national champion.
SCHEDULE/RESULTS
at #3 Pittsburgh W 20-14..................(Pitt finished 3-7-1)
Baylor W 47-13.................................(Baylor finished 5-6)
Tulsa W 38-15 ..................................(Tulsa finished 6-5)
at Hawaii W 18-13.............................(Hawaii finished 7-4)
at Colorado State W 52-9....................(CSU finished 3-8)
Wyoming W 41-38..............................(Wyoming finished 6-6)
at Air Force W 30-25..........................(AF finished 8-4)
at New Mexico W 48-0.......................(NM finished 4-8)
UTEP W 42-9....................................(UTEP finished 2-9)
San Diego State W 34-3.....................(SDSU finished 4-7-1)
at Utah W 24-14...............................(Utah finished 6-5-1)
Utah State W 38-13...........................(Utah State finished 1-10)
Holiday Bowl
Michigan W 24-17.............................(Michigan finished 6-6, sixth in the Big Ten)
UCF's resume is far superior to this.
There is precedence, so, UCF should be National Champions!
