Assuming the Baylor game would draw an additional 15K fans (includes Baylor fans, extra Tech fans and north Louisiana tire kickers), that's roughly 750K at $50 each. And doesn't include the money spent by all the fans hitting the bars, restaurants and hotels in downtown Ruston.
Average attendance (tickets sold) last year, excluding the 10,410 at the USM game as an outlier because everyone was obviously done with Skip and the like, was 15,705.

For comparison's sake, attendance for the 2017 MSU game was 28,100, a difference of 12,395. The travel time between Waco and Ruston is nearly the same as Starkville to Ruston. So if we assume Baylor brings in 12,400 fans as opposed to 15k (which would shatter the Joe's attendance record btw), additional ticket revenue would be $620,000 at $50 each ($10 more than the highest gate price we charged last year btw). For what it's worth, average attendance in 2017 outside of the MSU game was just a shade over 19k, so they really only "brought in" about 9k fans. Now you're only talking about $450k in revenue.

Take away what we'd be paying Baylor to travel to Ruston, and it's a wash at best for the athletic department financially. Plus we get a more winnable game. As for the cash flow to Ruston businesses, the difference there is obviously dependent on who we schedule to take their place.

You and others are still assuming Baylor would not have backed out on the game to Ruston. Baylor likes to play 7 or 8 home games not 6 or 7. The game is Ruston was never going to happen. Scheduling it as the final game of a 2-1 says it all.

Also, 15K Baylor fans to Ruston is a joke. Miss. State never brought more than 5K to Ruston.

Bad comparison. Mississippi State is a joke. They've never once traveled well to Ruston. Clearly Miss St is the worst traveling team in the SEC except for Vandy. Baylor fans travel in much bigger numbers than MSU does. Baylor travels very well. And I don't even want to hear you talking about Baylor cancelling the game. Baylor doesn't cancel games. They play 'em. It's Tech that cancel's football games......even HOME games....

Don't know if Baylor was the cause, but recently BU has had games vs. Tech, Houston, and Ole Miss cancelled.

I would have liked to seen Baylor come to Ruston. Would have been an awesome opportunity and great day/night of college football. What I don't like and still don't understand is why are we getting only $500K from Mizzou?

Middle Tennessee will open the 2022 season at James Madison on Saturday, Sept. 3. MTSU was supposed to play at Mizzou, but game was canceled and the Blue Raiders will receive $800,000.

So MTSU gets 800K for NOT playing Mizzou, while LA Tech gets 500K to play Mizzou?

I'm hearing rumors that administration is working on a lucrative deal to play Grambling in Shreveport and we've negotiated to get the lions share.

Haha, there’s no such thing as a lucrative deal playing Grambling in Shreveport or anywhere else.

The Baylor Bears have added the UAlbany Great Danes to their 2022 football schedule, the school announced on Tuesday.

"Baylor was previously scheduled to host the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs to open the 2022 season, but the Bulldogs backed out of the game and scheduled a road game against the Missouri Tigers."

That is probably true, but the website is speculating

Well, the Ole Miss game was a Covid casualty, as was the Houston game. Technically, BU cancelled the Houston game because they didn't have enough players to play--however, the game was postponed rather than cancelled anyway. It's still supposed to be played. So, yes, BU has been responsible for one game not being played, though a postponement rather than a cancel.

Generally, HogDawg is right about this. Nothing BU has done has given the impression they would have cancelled that game. Heck, they traveled to Monroe. Why would the skip out on Tech?
