We used to use Dawgs for our teams. They switched to 'Dogs because Georgia threatened to sue.

We used to be the Dunkin' Dawgs - now Dunkin' Dogs

It's just a preference- your HogDawg - not HogDog

I know that UGA has registered trademarks using the word Dawgs. However, it is my firm belief that the tradmarks are invalid. "Dawgs" is just a phonetic spelling of dogs. No one wants to be sued. However in trademark cases the winning party can get their attorney fees. There are just too many examples of people using "dawgs" for dogs so it must be generic. That is my opinion of and I have practiced trademark law (along with patent law) for over thirty years. Don't even ask an LSU lawyer, though, because UGA is a fellow SEC member.

Washington has "Dawgs" written on the front of their helmets. Georgia can get over themselves.

Exactly. I agree. Furthermore, it's not like we don't have a long history of using "DAWGS" too......

Everybody except our athletic department. About 4 years ago our athletic department switched from the traditional use of Dawgs to the yankee spelling 'Dogs. They said Georgia threatened to sue, but every other "Dawgs" school still uses Dawgs except us. So lame. Our fans will never embrace 'Dogs as if we moved north of the Mason-Dixon line all of a sudden.

Doesn't matter. It's been ubiquitous for a long time.

I know we were "Bulldogs" first, but I don't know about the "Dawgs" nickname.
