Well, that is TOO easy. Fiscal conservatism is a dead idealogy. Being Republican today is about being pro-Religion and anti-Abortion. That is the platform. A congress full of objectivists would spend very little and would never carry a debt. It is altruism, not individualism, which has caused government to expand at the expense of fiscal discipline.

part of that i agree with:
it does seem that 'conservatism' has pitched more toward social rather than fiscal aspects. although i am sure that most who call themselves conservative would claim to ascribe to both of those aspects, i think the social side seems more important. and justifiably so since stance on social issues is really what seems to separate political candidates nowadays; the war, abortion, immigration, gun control, death penalty, etc. are what most campaigns focus on...and no matter who is in office a quarter of my pay goes to the government. so why not focus on social issues?
as far as a congress full of objectivists doing all you said: in a vacuum, perhaps, but in reality, probably not.
I'll second the "frustrating" remark about this thread. It was destined to continue as it did, and just try to settle down. This topic is "hot" and don't try to lose too much sleep over it.
It's easy to tell how frustrated people got from the first few pages on to the later pages. I doubt anybody changed their mind throughout.

He went back and forth throughout his life. Predictable you picked a letter he wrote when he was in an atheistic sort of phase.
He has also made quotes that state quite the opposite of that letter.
It's irrelevant though. You could come up with a letter from Einstein that says 2+2=737 and it wouldn't make it true.
Actually, I just posted this because this letter was in the news today and it reminded me of this discussion. Believing in an intelligent universe and a creator is not the same thing, by the way. That is one of my criticisms of the out-of-context presentation of ID in Expelled. I am interested in studying the "intelligence" aspects of the universe further at some point. I am mostly interested in this because I think it may tell us where humans are going in the next hundred years or so (AI).
