I think that's one of the reasons why the Big West and Big Sky won't take Boise State. Those conferences don't want Boise State to pump their football revenues into their other sports. It would put all the other schools in the conference at a competitive disadvantage to Boise State because they don't have access to that kind of money.

That was before he had to travel 3000 miles to the east coast to play. That's a huge difference. He'll be gone at the first good offer.

How often do you think he's going to be flying to the East Coast? Y'all act like the poor guy's going to be on a plane to South Africa every weekend.

He'll get to play half his conference games at home(where their already amazing home field advantage will be even greater). And some of those away games will be with SDSU, Houston, and SMU which is no worse than what he's been doing. Throw in an FCS home game, a one-for-one or two-for-one with a Pac-12 team, and a couple of one-for-ones with MWC/WAC/western CUSA teams and the travel isn't that bad. If you're just in it for football, being the conference outlier (or one of them) isn't the end of the world (even if it isn't ideal).

They opened last season in Georgia and will open this season in Michigan. Four games consisting of some combination of UCF, USF, UConn, Louisville, Rutgers, or Temple isn't going to drive him off.

The only thing I could come up with was that the WAC was just adding as many bodies as possible as insurance against having too few teams to even remain viable as a basketball conference. But the only problem with that, is that they still didn't add enough schools (at least, they haven't yet).
My theory is that they knew if they didn't take BSU, someone else would. They would add to the conference more than they would subtract with regards to basketball, so the lack of football became not-a-dealbreaker.

Academics does not appear to be particularly high on the Big Sky's priorities. Having Boise State come to Bozeman for basketball is a bigger deal than have Idaho do the same, though (even though both are better than Southern Utah).

Academics does not appear to be particularly high on the Big East's priorities by taking Boise St.

It hurts because it's true. They stick out more than Marshall did in C*USA. It's one of the reasons I'm less enthusiastic about their inclusion. All I can say to myself in defense is "Half-members! Half-members!!" Which is, admittedly, kind of lame.

Boise State is not a full member of the Big East. They are a football-only member, which means they will never play any of the private non-football schools. The Big East took Boise State to try to save their AQ status. That's it.

It's not close to half. Boise State is a 1/24 member of the Big East.

Benson and everybody on BBB had known for a while that for the WAC to survive, it had to become a non-football league. Boise State fell into Benson's lap. For the football schools wanting out of the WAC, they needed to provide a home for Boise State's non-football sports to open up a spot in the Mountain West to keep the dominoes falling. If the WAC hadn't invited Boise State back, then Utah State and SJSU certainly wouldn't have landed in the MWC.

They may have lately been in the top half in rpi or whatever, but they were taking away in the sense that they were another mouth to feed and another trip to Idaho to take.

It was a bad move in every possible way except for gearing up for a move to a non-football conference.

Benson then killed the WAC by taking TxSt and UTA with him to the Belt. And then twisted the knife by failing to secure FBO invites for NMSU and Idaho.

At what point do we consider the possibility than Benson's actions are better described not in terms of incompetence, but malice?

Petersen could have already been the coach at Tennessee or Florida if he had wanted an SEC job. He is a west coast guy. I think he holds out until USC or Oregon becomes open, then we might see him jump ship.
