    Sports Illustrated Blurb

Every time I receive a SI mag, I immediately skim through and check for any mention of Tech. More often it's just stuff like what the KSU players do on their off days, usually no mention of the nations #1 offense.

Then this morning, in the HOT / NOT section, I read this:

Tech Foul: Louisiana Tech, 9-3 ad the nation's leader in ppg (51.5), got invited to the Independence Bowl but took too long to respond while hoping for a better offer. Now Tech won't play in a bowl. Tweeted LT alum Karl Malone, "This is exactly what's wrong with our university."

It pisses me off that people care so much about what Karl Malone thinks.

edit: Don't get me wrong, I like Karl, but he's only human. I don't support him ripping Tech in national media before he knew the story.

I care what Karl Malone thinks....he's got as much right, and more than most, to speak his mind on anything Tech-related.

His impulsive twitter rant is not worthy of national attention.

Respectfully disagree, guys....Karl was right. This is about results. It is entirely what is wrong with the university. The people who were and are in charged failed to get results. Everyone else has to pay for their failure.

No it wasn't. He went off before knowing 1/3 of the story. So did a lot of us but most of us did it here and kept it in the family. Karl did it and it goes coast to coast.

I'm perfectly happy with this result. At best, Dykes would have been interviewing right through the bowl, overshadowing the game itself. At worst, he would have taken the Cal job as he did and left us SEARCHING for a coach while preparing for the bowl.

    Which would you have preferred?

So...all the blame goes to the bowl in Tennessee? Our esteemed leadership bears NO responsibility? This is an error without a source of the error? Like an errant bounce of a football? Sorry. I do not agree. IF this were corporate America or a serious university, someone would have been fired by now...or if we are REALLY blameless, a lawsuit would have been filed. As it appears now, Tech is simply whining...I concur with Karl. This is simply more of the same.

What would I prefer? I'd prefer our athletes be preparing for a bowl game. I wouldn't care if Conroy Hines and JBIII and Billy Brewer were called in to help get 'em ready. At least they would be playing. Failure of the highest order and our athletes and fans are absorbing it.

There is no error! Just because you don't go to freakin' Shreveport to play a game so few would care about it might not even GET a TV rating, does not mean it was an error. What would have been an error would have been not to pursue every other possibility even it meant losing the very dubious "privilege" of playing at Indy.
