"University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL Lafayette)
For a while in the 1980s, UL Lafayette literally made a name for itself, The University of Louisiana. A subsequent act of the Louisiana Legislature nullified that name change, but Authement persisted. On September 10, 1999, his perseverance was rewarded when he walked onto a stage before an audience of alumni, visiting dignitaries, administrators, faculty, and students in the Cajundome. There, before several thousand people, with the blessing of the State of Louisiana, he signed an order that changed the university's name to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. This monumental achievement occurred as part of UL Lafayette's Centennial Celebration."

I kind of think U La La has some marketing potential.
They have selective memory about that. Back in the day they tried to make the change to UL, but were shot down IMMEDIATELY. Then when Northeast needed a home for their failed attempt at 1A/FBS the legislators from Monroe (Thompson and McDonald) made sure Act 45 contained this...
C. The use of the two-letter University of Louisiana abbreviation, "UL" and/or the phrase U of L" are prohibited by the university or any of its affiliated organizations (alumni associations, development foundations, bookstores, etc.) For academic, pubic relations as well as other purposes not specified, the use of the University of Louisiana abbreviation must always include the abbreviation must always include the abbreviation for the municipal location of the institution.
I don't think those gals are cute at all. Maybe it's that crappy eye shadow.
Have you ever gone 75 in a 70 right pass a cop on radar and not gotten stoped? That's about how much that law means. The judge was an LSU grad who would not remove himself from the case. That law was put into place after a legal name change to University Of Louisiana. It is about the most bogus law ever passed by our criminal politicians in this state.
Hypothetical here. Lets say roles were reversed and you guys were the University of Louisiana at Ruston and there is also a University of Louisiana at Monroe. You were once legally the university of Louisiana period. (because that law wasn't in place at the time) Would you be pursuing the name and branding just like the school in Lafayette is today? Now be honest with your answer.

Sorry your wrong, at the event in which the name change was announced, it was made known the 2 things we will not go by is ULL and Lafayette. The next day a press release came out saying the same thing. And they never have since day 1. Shortly after a school in baton rouge held its own press event just to say how they will refer to school in Lafayette. Someone tell me that is not insecurity.
We can talk about the name thing until we are blue in the face and we'll never agree. So we can just let that one play out and see how it ends.
Earlier in the thread with Dixon we were talking recruiting in the state before the name thing hijacked it. Hud was obviously no competition for you guys in recruiting. Our current staff appears to be turning some heads on the recruiting trail. Early indications are this staff might actually give skip and crew a little bit of a challenge. It will be interesting to see some of those battles in the future. What do y'all think can Napier win a few of those head on battles? Or will Skip shut him out? As some of you know there is one battle I am paying close attaention to.
I think south of I10 your new guy will have an impact, but his results will be what sustains you. He has a big hill to climb when you look at what Skip has done . You are definitely better off than with Hud!
Naw, just someone bullying to get their way.
(Hey, if we call ourselves U of "State" then we'll present the image to everyone we're better than every other institution in our system. You just don't start calling yourself something unless your governing body okays it. Your (our) governing body has NOT done such.
Should we pick other battles to occupy our time? Maybe. BUT, this one is too easy to battle cuz every time there's a protest raised, the UL-L folks get their Cajun panties in a wad defending their actions. Always have. I guess always will.
So, okay, yeah, that's a sign of insecurity.
Louisiana Tech University
Flagship of the University of Louisiana System
To get a true reading on how the folks at UL-L feel about naming, I think we should have some uniforms similar to those pictured below with "Louisiana" on the front and "TECH" on the back. I'm sure they would scream to high heaven we are "stealing" their name.
Dang thats some nice unis and legal by every letter of the law when comes to athletics. Dr. Savoy spent many years in the UL System and knows that law better than just about anyone in the state.
That baseball hat and jersey has been worn since 2000 the very first season after the name change, which also happens to be the year we made the College World Series. If it is illegal why wasn't it squashed immediately way back then? (Excuse me I am sorry, for those who don't know the college world series is a place where the best 8 teams in baseball meet after winning a regional and super regional.) Same thing for the football jersey?
In an effort to stay consistent how often do you guys go by LTU. You are La Tech University. I never see you go by LTU, but shouldn't you? Shouldn't La State University and Agricultural and Mechanical college go by LSUA&M if we are consistent?
