    Why? We don't have a Top 5 C-USA budget and can't afford full COA for our student-athletes (even though we can somehow afford an AD pay raise).

    There is no reason whatsoever to pay Holtz as one of the top 5 in the cusa. I proposed a very doable salary package that is incentive laiden. Paying Holtz a million dollars to beat powderpuffs is ludicrous.

    If Holtz wants a million a year, let him earn it through incentives which also benefit the university. Straight salary is insane.

    Our AD is scared to death of HCSH. Whatever HCSH wants he will get unless Les Guice gets involved. Our AD stated publicly back in Janurary that he was about to sign HCSH to a new contract. This guy got a raise AFTER talking stupid crap. Who knows? Hopefully our LG is the one who does the deal rather than our over paid SLC AD.

    I would include an academic component along with the four incentive categories in post #118 and make each category $100K instead of $125K.

    Minimum qualifying 4-year APR to maintain bowl eligibility is 930, so all other incentives are wiped out any year the team fails to reach 930.
    Team APR from 930 to 940 gets no extra money.
    Team APR from 941 to 960 gets $2K per point ($40K max).
    Team APR from 961 to 980 gets $3K per point ($60K max, $100K total max reached at 980).

    So Holtz is not your typical Tech hire.

    Think about this. Our hires in the past depended on identifying young up and comers. People on their way up.
    Crowton, Dooley, Dykes. (Bicknell was a freak non hire)

    We hired a person to bump our program for 2-3 years and move on. We knew this and for the most part we did it pretty well. It requires more work on the part of the AD to have your next guy lined up. If WKU is smart and I think they are, they already know who their next coach is.

    Holtz on the other hand was on his way down. He had just been fired. The next place he was going was home. No other program wanted him. We took a chance and it has worked for the most part.

    Here's they one problem. When you hire someone who is content, there is no incentive to do more. Holtz isn't necessarily coaching for his next job. Which gives us consistency, but it does not offer surprises.

    That works for me, too. I'm tired of coaches saying they love Tech and Ruston then move on after a couple of years of success. I'd love for Tech to have a coach that wants to build something at Tech and is willing to see it through.
