Ryan just said the government will fund it separately, outside of the bill being introduced. He also said the "missing parts" of the current bill could be added, but there are no built in guarantees for that.

You are right. Those with pre-ex will continued to be covered and it is likely they can wait until they get sick to purchase coverage.

That's the part I don't understand. Obama's system was likely to end in a death spiral of insolvency. The GOP proposed plan will hit the death spiral even earlier.

I think Obama and the Democrats knew it would end horribly. They wanted it to fail because once it did, they knew there was no going back only forward toward universal health care. The Republicans are seeing that now, that's why their bill is just a crappier version of the ACA. They can't repeal everything or its political suicide since they will be removing people's insurance, but they have to do something after whining about it for 6-7 years now. So now we have politics at its finest (or its worst, politics are never really great)- A party that passed a bill that would fail and cause problems just so they could move closer to their end goal and another party complaining about the bill the whole time, but then not knowing what to do when they finally get in power because they were too focused on whining than planning to gain political support.

    Politics.

What makes you say that? Cotton has implied that it will crash as is, but as finally explained today it was never intended to be passed as is.

That's not true at all. Nothing could be worse than Obamacare. Have you read the GOP plan? I don't like it, but it is not worse.

The lack of an individual mandate is a good thing.

The incentive to purchase before illness is (as it's being sold) a much less expensive plan. This is yet to be determined, but as written it is up in the air.

Taking the sick out of the plan will make a tremendous difference. Companies who have opted out of Obamacare will come back to compete for business.

Taking on big pharma is still a major obstacle.

The bill creates a separate fund for pre-ex patients through a high risk pool or other arrangement(s). This is designed to encourage insurer participation, but not demand participation.

So currently covered people with pre-existing conditions will have their current coverage revoked?

No, but that is a falsehood being spread by dems. Although Republicans do want to kill all old and poor people, they are cutting them some slack in this bill.

Then I don't see how this plan will push to insolvency faster than the ACA.

Is any government program solvent? Taking the sick out (and I forgot to mention) along with the restructure of the medicaid program will be a 180 from what Obamacare is.

Obamacare (some refer to it as ACA) is about to implode 2 to 3 years ahead of schedule. It's been insolvent from day 1.

Again, I don't like the the new plan as is, but after hearing Ryan's reasoning today I feel a little better than "garbage".

But you just said they aren't taking the sick out of it. Maybe they're not adding more sick to it, but unless they're removing those with pre-existing conditions from their current individual plans, I don't see how it's removing the sick.

You are buying into the liberal mantra that says the sick will lose coverage. There will be not be a loss of coverage. To simplify it, the sick go on the government teat without being included in the new plan's "law of large numbers" group that will determine the new rates.

I thought I explained that in post #24, but probably didn't explain it well.

Keep in mind there are two plans involved..for now.
