Memory Lane: 25 Years Ago, Beating Bama

Found this from 1997. Have NEVER Seen it. Didn't know a video highlight of any sort existed. PRETTY COOL!

Link is from the Arkansas message board. If you go to 20:17 on the video you can actually see the game winning TD pass by Stallworth

I think that may have been the 1999 game.

In the early days of Youtube I posted a 10-minute highlight reel of the game using this footage, which came from Alabama's pay-per-view network.

It was almost immediately taken down with a copyright claim coming from the University of Alabama. They were very sensitive about it. I've never encountered it with any other school.

Also, Nitz's call of this play is almost as incredible as the play itself.

And at the end of the video look at Rattay's stat line!!!

I miss those high-octane offense days. Fun times.

Here is a stand alone highlight video of the last drive of that game in 1999.

Good old Tim RAT-TAY. I also said Ra-Tay.

Wonder if Bama ever recovered from that game? Oh well.

Read some comments by Bama fans, one said his dad considered our 29-28 win one of the hardest to swallow. I do remember the talk leading up to the game and Bama fans having circled it as a revenge game for our beating them in 1997. Ooops!

At the end of the 1999 game - as everyone was leaving Legion Field - you could have heard a pin drop everywhere in the stadium other than the Tech section.

But there was this one guy - and you could hear him all throughout the stadium - who kept screaming over and over again "get those f---ers off the schedule, get those f---ers off the schedule."

    It was awesome.

I very much enjoyed the walk out of Legion Field that day. Dinner afterwards was very quiet in the restaurant as well.

One of my favorite road trips of all time...and what an ending. We Tech fans were assigned/confined to the end zone seats and on that last drive Timmy the Great was marching our boys down the field...we were standing, waving our arms signaling the team to "COME ON DOWN...THIS WAY BOYS...KEEP MARCHING!" --- THEN on 3rd down Tim gets sacked...and our collective gasp when we realized he'd been injured on the play. John Stallworth into the game...4th down from the Alabama 29...and he released the pass to Sean Cangelosi. It was as if time stood still. I watched the pass like...slow motion...Sean LEAPS into the air in triple coverage...somehow finds a way to grab the football, and lands foot inbounds in the corner of the end zone...RIGHT IN FRONT of the TECH fans.

Yeah, we lost our minds. What a memory.

Yep, our Bulldogs are overdue. We need our swagger back.

All that and then the (not guaranteed that season) extra point and kicking the ball to Shaun Alexander.

That game may have taken years off my life (but was worth it).
