There are facts and then there are damned statistics.
I have always been interested in the Sagarin Ratings, and have made a hobby out of studying his work. If you look at the Louisiana FBS schools over the last 21 years based on final yearly rankings. The ranking would be as follows:
Average Average Difference Final Ranking Power Rating from Tech 1) LSU 17 86.52 20.35 2) LA Tech 83 66.17 - 3) Tulane 114 59.54 -6.63 4) ULL 126 55.54 -10.63 5) ULM 130 54.64 -11.53
Just for fun, I also looked at just the last 10 years (2008-2017). LSU, Tech and ULL would have all increased in the rankings, and poor old Tulane has sunk to the bottom (when you eliminate the two Shaun King years, 1997-1998).
Average Average Difference Final Ranking Power Rating from Tech 1) LSU 12 87.97 20.04 2) LA Tech 77 67.93 - 3) ULL 109 60.26 -7.67 4) ULM 130 56.1 -11.83 5) Tulane 133 55.42 -12.51
Good stuff Tech79.
Yeah, for sure.
I totally think that if we'd had some permanent home and home series with them and had played them 20 times in the last 20 years we'd be pretty firmly on the overall winning side of that. It probably wouldn't quite be 18-2 or anything like that, but I think we'd have won way more often than not. We'll never know, and the fact is they've won in the few times we have actually played (which were all in the 20s and 30s except for 2).
