Angry More persecution of Christians and Jews

Christian girls beheaded in grisly Indonesian attackOctober 29, 2005 - 7:01PM

Three teenage Christian girls were beheaded and a fourth was seriously wounded in a savage attack on Saturday by unidentified assailants in the Indonesian province of Central Sulawesi.

The girls were among a group of students from a private Christian high school who were ambushed while walking through a cocoa plantation in Poso Kota subdistrict on their way to class, police Major Riky Naldo said.
The area is close to the provincial capital of Poso, about 1000 kilometres northeast of Jakarta.
Naldo said the heads of the three dead victims were found several kilometres from their bodies.
In Jakarta, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono ordered the police to begin a hunt for the killers.
"In the holy month of Ramadan, we are again shocked by a sadistic crime in Poso that claimed the lives of three school students," he told reporters at the airport as he prepared to fly to Sumatra island.
"I condemn this barbarous killing, whoever the perpetrators are and whatever their motives."

He ordered the security forces to find the killers and maintain order in the region.
Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim nation, but Central Sulawesi has a roughly equal number of Muslims and Christians. The province was the scene of a bloody religious war in 2001-2002 that killed around 1000 people from both communities.
At the time, beheadings, burnings and other atrocities were common.
A government-mediated truce succeeded in ending the conflict in early 2002, but there have since been a series of bomb attacks and assassinations of Christians.
These included a blast at a market in Poso, a predominantly Christian town, that killed 22 people in May.

Christian leaders have repeatedly accused the authorities in Jakarta of not doing enough to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

The Christian-Muslim conflict in Sulawesi was an extension of a wider sectarian war in the nearby Maluku archipelago in which up to 9000 perished between 1999 and 2002.

The Maluku conflict intensified soon after it began with the arrival of volunteers belonging to Laskar Jihad, a newly created militia from Indonesia's main island of Java that was supported by hardline elements of the security forces.
Analysts and diplomats accused senior army commanders of funding and training the militia, which was hurriedly disbanded following the terrorist attacks on the tourist island of Bali in 2002 which claimed 202 lives, including 88 Australians.

We should have been posting on this thread weekly/monthy as Christian persecution has been on the rise around the world. Here is another that needs our prayers.

An Iranian pastor who has refused to renounce his Christian faith faces execution as early as Wednesday after his sentence was upheld by an Iranian court.
Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, who maintains he has never been a Muslim as an adult, has Islamic ancestry and therefore must recant his faith in Jesus Christ, the 11th branch of Iran's Gilan Provincial Court ruled. Iran's Supreme Court had ordered the trial court to determine whether Nadarkhani had been a Muslim prior to converting to Christianity.

The judges, according to the American Center for Law & Justice, demanded that Nadarkhani, 34, recant his Christian faith before submission of evidence. Though the judgment runs against current Iranian and international laws and is not codified in Iranian penal code, the judge stated that the court must uphold the decision of the 27th Branch of the Supreme Court in Qom.
When asked to repent, Nadarkhani stated: "Repent means to return. What should I return to? To the blasphemy that I had before my faith in Christ?"
"To the religion of your ancestors, Islam," the judge replied, according to the American Center for Law & Justice.
    "I cannot," Nadarkhani said.
Nadarkhani is the latest Christian cleric to be imprisoned in Iran for his religious beliefs. According to Elam Ministries, a United Kingdom-based organization that serves Christian churches in Iran, there was a significant increase in the number of Christians arrested solely for practicing their faith between June 2010 and January 2011. A total of 202 arrests occurred during that six-month period, including 33 people who remained in prison as of January, Elam reported.

Officials at the U.S. State Department declined to comment when reached on Wednesday.Attempts to reach his attorney, Mohammed Ali Dadkhah, were not successful.

House Speaker John Boehner said Nadarkhani's case is "distressing for people of every country and creed," according to a statement released on Wednesday.
"While Iran's government claims to promote tolerance, it continues to imprison many of its people because of their faith," the statement read. "This goes beyond the law to an issue of fundamental respect for human dignity. I urge Iran's leaders to abandon this dark path, spare [Nadarkhani's] life, and grant him a full and unconditional release."
Father Jonathan Morris, a Catholic priest in the Archdiocese of New York and an analyst for Fox News Channel, said Nadarkhani's case is "unmistakable evidence" that Iran is executing Christians simply because they refuse to become Muslims.
Morris continued: "Will President Obama, and the free world, allow the United Nations to continue in its cowardly silence on this matter?"

Because most everyone else already broadcast in closed captioning for the same reason this exemption was rescinded.

Nowhere close to "persecuting" Christians since it's not just Christians that have to follow this. This is one of the good choices government has made since it doesn't give preferential treatment.

I don't know the percentages - there are way too many shows for me to watch to know if they do. I'm willing to bet the "major" networks - ABC, CBS, TBS, Fox, NBC, ESPN, ESPN2, MSNBC, CNN, FoxNews, C-SPAN, USA, Syfy, Comendy Central, History, Disney, FX, TNT, etc. - broadcast greater than 80% of their programming in closed captioning.

The rule does not apply to movies and documentaries, though most of the listed networks do broadcast movies with closed captioning (it's good for business).

And remember, these churches can get the exception back if they can prove financial hardship, which I'm more than sure a lot of them will.

I bet it's not 80%. And sitcoms, sports , game shows, reality TV, movies and documentaries are a huge % on TV. Why not make the Hollywood types and their industry have closed caption as well? I know why.

    Re: More persecution of Christians

They already have it, that's the point. Turn on your TV and turn the regular TV stations most TV watchers have (the ones I listed). You will be hard pressed finding a channel where greater than 20% of programming is not closed caption. Again, it's just good business to have it. MORE people can/will watch it.

Can you not separate the different mediums here? Movies and documentaries are not made for television specifically. It just so happens when they are shown, they more times than not have closed captioning though. So you're argument is completely invalid on this point as well.

I suggest you read this: http://www.fcc.gov/guides/closed-captioning

Sorry but I think it is. And I don't care what the Fed's rules are in this case as they will change them to suit their biased wishes at a drop of a hat.

A reversal of a biased decision is itself bias?

Movies and documentaries ARE NOT TELEVISION PROGRAMMING/CONTENT.

So what you're really saying is you're as bad an ideologue as those you continually hate on? Thank for admitting it at least, I guess.
