    I think not!

It is exactly this behavior that has led to the popularity of Donald Trump, who likely shares very few values with his supporters. He is popular because they "think" he will stand up to the opposition. I think he will stand up for himself.

Dems change the rules to get what they want when they are in control, yet the republicans refuse to represent those that sent them into office.

Is this contrary to the constitution?

It's just that the GOP always attempts to reach across the aisle despite their posturing and words. Obama/Biden/Hillary/Pelosi and Reid NEVER!!

The constitution is suspended only when the Democrats need it to be. With Republicans holding the majority in the senate, they'll behave like proper gentlemen and rubber stamp their approval for everything on Obama's agenda. There IS no two party system anymore.

Words like always and only don't stand up well to scrutiny, but I understand the use of hyperbole in making one's points. Of course, Republicans/conservatives have been contentious in numerous confirmation processes of presidential nominees.

Originalists are hamstrung in the sense that they are the only ones with a fixed tether.

Of course the republicans will not confirm an Obama nominee. Of course Obama will make a nomination. The court is now and has been for a long time a VERY political body. The republicans treating it as such is sure to draw the ire of the left now as they want Obama to drastically shift the ideology of the court, but they are simply playing with the precedent that the left has set.

Knew it. He was murdered and you can bet the klintons had a hand in it. Maybe they leant their thugs to obummer. Doesn't matter, he was murdered because the 'craps think they are gonna lose the WH and this is their only chance to tilt the Court in their favor.

A year from now when evidence surfaces Hillary will say, in that shrill voice, "what difference does it make now."

It could be a temporary tilt as I don't see RBG making it beyond first two years of the next president. She seems to me to be ready to quit. Scalia's death so "soon" after losing her husband is a big blow to her. Add her own age and family, just don't see her being there much longer.

Guys, he was 79. No reason to call conspiracy.

The Senate will filibuster the nominee, I think.

But for now we should pray God raises up more men like him.

So, does the court stop doing business for now? Or does the left now get everything they want with their 4-3-1 majority?

(I didn't pay much attention to what happened when Rehnquist died.)

FLASHBACK: Senate Dems passed resolution against election year Supreme Court appointments...

Read it and weep, Democrats. The shoe is on the other foot. David Bernstein at the Washington Post’s Volokh Conspiracy blog:
Thanks to a VC commenter, I discovered that in August 1960, the Democrat-controlled Senate passed a resolution, S.RES. 334, “Expressing the sense of the Senate that the president should not make recess appointments to the Supreme Court, except to prevent or end a breakdown in the administration of the Court’s business.” Each of President Eisenhower’s SCOTUS appointments had initially been a recess appointment who was later confirmed by the Senate, and the Democrats were apparently concerned that Ike would try to fill any last-minute vacancy that might arise with a recess appointment.
The GOP opposed this, of course. Hypocrisy goes two ways. But the majority won.
    As it should this time.

The glee the left has for Scalia's death is overwhelming worse than the right's glee over Ted Kennedy's death. It makes the right look like they were completely respectful.
