Playing devil's advocate here: what if Boise did go to the AAC. Would the MWC fill the vacancy, and with whom? If it's UTEP, there goes another chain reaction. The CUSA would have an opening in the West. CUSA will be looking at SBC schools in the footprint, and our old cajun buddies would be after that spot big time. They are pretty damn good at BS'ing their way with what they desire, such as being called "Louisiana".
What say you?
On second thought, just say "No".
Yeah, ULL wouldn't be the first school called up out of the Sunbelt. Arkansas State, App State, Troy one of the Georgia schools. if all of them said no, ULL might be in strong consideration. The reality is that we don't need to replace UTEP if they leave. Unlike the Sunbelt or ACC we already have 2 to many schools as it is. Losing one of our bottom dwellers would be a big gain for us. It would just make scheduling a mess.
The real problem is that the MWC wouldn't want any part of UTEP. They bring nothing to the table these days.
You never know with this realignment stuff, but yeah - I think there would have to be a perfect storm for ULL to find their way into CUSA because of this. I think it's pretty unlikely Boise leaves the MWC, but even if they did - I don't know that the MWC automatically goes to UTEP to replace them. And if CUSA lost UTEP, I think ULL would be on the list but probably not at the top of the list. You could always pursue an eastern team and shift everyone over (which would split MTSU and WKU, and they wouldn't like that).
Ah - realignment. How many words have college football fans wasted on you?
I'd just as soon have LaLaff if I didn't have to hear the UL crap. Still can't believe the presidents in the UL system played politics on the name game.
