Huh, what am I organizing??!
No problem.... Unicorns, rainbows, fairies, and Icees for all!!!
Turned out i had tuesday to work on my engine. I put the crankshaft and pistons in but when i got the camshaft in it wouldnt turn. Took it back to the machine shop to have the tight bearing honed. The machinist said that is not unusual; big block dodges are the worst.
No more time to work on my project.
I do want to pass along this advise. If you have an old engine running a flat tappet cam, make sure you run the zinc additive in every oil change. I had been running a diesel oil in mine; come to find out they have removed most of the zinc from it too. My son's 77 f150 ran two years and wiped a cam lobe. It is now scattered across my shop getti g a roller cam and roller lifters.
My corvette started running bad last summer. I fear it has the same issue.
After changing the cam from flat tappet to roller, I will never run another flat tappet. There is a noticeable difference in how the engine runs. smoother idle, faster throttle response; it just sounds healthier.
Tuning on the engine is done, and it's running like a scalded dog!
I still have a few miscellaneous things to do in the interior and cosmetically, but I'm planning to bring it to the SU game regardless since all of the important stuff is done. Trust me, you'll know when I get there!
Spent a good bit of the weekend replacing most of the front end suspension components on the Ranger. Upper and lower control arm assemblies with new ball joints, tie rod ends, and the sway bar links and bushings. Went with Moog's problem solver line for everything.
Changed an in tank fuel pump on my '99 chevy yesterday and today. 40 gallon tank at least half full. I knew I needed to get the gas out of the tank. Tried siphoning, but after the second mouthful of gas and knowing I needed to get the hose lower I said screw it!
I should have found a way to get the gas out of the tank.
Because it's been slow in the shop I agreed to take on a complete paint job on a 1990 Chevy s-10. Its as close to polishing a turd as I ever want to get.
Haven't touched the 77, since last summer. Took the vette to my shop but haven't had time to touch it either because of the turd polishing.
